Rumor Report: Hasbro - Could The 3.75" Line Become A Retailer Exclusive?

Posted by Paul | April 23, 2015 at 02:40 PM ET

And by 3.75" line we mean collector line (super-articulated figures only). Let us preface this clearly: TAKE THIS AS A BIG OLD NASTY RUMOR until it is announced by Hasbro. (Hear that out there, word-twisters?) We really debated whether or not to post this because it seems outlandish and contrary to what Hasbro expressed to JTA at previous Toy Fair events. (more....)

Let us elaborate. We (JTA) had once suggested to Hasbro in one of many conversations (and even addressed it in our Q&A with them in the past) to maybe make the 3.75" collector line a single store exclusive. Hasbro explained to us that it wouldn't be possible. They needed multiple huge accounts like Walmart and TARGET to make the line cost feasible. This is just our opinion, but we have always felt that knowing you could go to ONE STORE that could closely monitor which figures are selling and which ones weren't would be a good way to keep the line as healthy as possible. Plus, with the way TARGET and Walmart have completely mismanaged the line for the last three years or so, do we really even need them at this point (for 3.75" collector-focused action figures we mean)? Online seems to be saving everyone at the moment anyhow. Anyway, JTA has learned from multiple credible sources that a rumor is flying around that the Hasbro 3.75" Star Wars line may become a single store exclusive. We're (JTA) surmising that Toys R Us may be the store of choice but have no proof of this whatsoever. Since Toys R Us seems to be the retailer of choice for Hasbro for The Force Awakens, it makes sense why they would be chosen for the exclusive collector line (if this is true of course). We know the thoughts on this topic are diverse and the debates could get heated, but what do you think about this possibility should this rumor become true? It sort of makes sense why Hasbro has been so hush, hush about Fall 2015 (even about the stuff already in existence).
