Darth Vader (#26): Still The Greatest Darth Vader Figure By Hasbro EVER

Posted by Paul | August 21, 2014 at 10:22 AM ET

After my review of the stunning The Black Series Darth Vader (#26) figure, it appears that not all reviews on other sites are equally glowing. I am not sure at this point if it’s a conscious effort to devalue what merits the figure does possess, to be contrary (again), or to be cranky, but I just can’t write one jeremiad after another defending its worth and value in the collector line. So this will be the last. It would be a disservice to you for me to badmouth this figure. It is the most exciting Hasbro action figure we have seen since the TVC Gamorrean Guard. That’s my final answer. If the head pops off a little too easily, it's by no means a deal-breaker. At all. To rave about embarrassing Saga Legends and Mission Series figures to then demean/tear apart and flunk/fail what is Hasbro’s greatest Darth Vader figure ever because on some/many samples have a loose head joint is completely laughable in my eyes. As far as I am concerned, talking trash about this figure is very misleading to our cherished readers. I don't even believe that the critics believe the negative things they're saying about Darth Vader. And sadly my explanation of how to resolve the issue is seemingly falling on deaf ears. (more....)

You aren’t going to throw this Darth Vader figure from the rooftops, you’re not going to roll over the figure with your car and you're not going to flick it’s head violently with your fingers and expect its head to stay on its neck post (like what was witnessed in a recent video). Thankfully, good friend (and reasonable/head-on-straight collector) Josh M. writes in with his own assessment of the figure. Please see his thoughts below and hopefully allow his explanation to quickly quench this ridiculous controversy once and for all for the most brilliant Darth Vader Star Wars action figure on the market today.

Paul,

I've been reading comment after comment on various sites about the new BS Vader's head popping off. Mine did the same thing, and it's because the cape fabric is nestled between the ball joint on the body and the base of the neck on the head, preventing a secure "pop" when attaching the head to the body. There is a simple solution to this: remove the head, push the neck of the head piece through the hole in the cape until the entire circular base of the neck is visible, with NO fabric on the circular base of the neck. If the ENTIRE base of the neck isn't completely protruding from the cape fabric, then it will not attach securely to the body. When you get the neck through the hole and attach it to the body, it will "pop" on nicely and maintains its full range of motion. I just wanted to pass it along to anyone who may have this issue.

Thanks,

Josh=
