C-3PO and R2-D2 are kidnapped by Cad Bane. The bounty hunter abducts the pair of droids from a marketplace on Coruscant and forces them to reveal the plans to the Galactic Senate building.

No new ground was broken for the Capture Of The Droids Battle Packs set. The new format axes another figure from the original five figure multipack, but with the reduction of another 3.75” figure comes a reduction in price which bring the price per figure a very palatable cost to collectors. C-3PO is the only figure that contains any differences from its previous release, and R2-D2 and Cad Bane (with Todo 360) are straight repacks. What makes C-3PO slightly different from 2008’s TCW [F/S1] C-3PO (No. 16) figure are the paint operations. First, the golden color used to decorate his body is darker. And a very fine detailed improvement we noticed right away is how his eyes are painted. Hasbro ensured that they only painted the center of his photoreceptors so he looks more like a droid than a human.

Cad Bane (as well as the “accessory” Todo 360) is a straight repack of 2011’s TCW [SOTDS] Cad Bane (CW42) figure. We tried our best to find any paint variations between the two releases and were unable to document any. One could point out that Cad Bane’s eyes on the Battle Packs release are a little bit brighter and cleaner, but that would be a small stretch t designate it as a repaint. Every time Hasbro releases a figure multiple times, there are going to be some slight variations once in a while. But we think Hasbro did a great job on making this an exact repack for those not looking top purchase the set all over again. Still, it’s a fabulous version of Cad Bane to include in this Battle Packs set and a worthwhile repurchase or first time purchase if you haven’t picked him up yet.

R2-D2 is also a straight repack and originally came as 2008’s TCW [F/S1] R2-D2 (No. 8) figure. The figure is a lot of fun and comes with removable leg rockets and a removable third foot. And then the front two panels and rear back panel open up for additional play value. The Clone Wars version of R2-D2 came with a unique paint job: unique meaning that every The Clone Wars version of R2-D2 will be different. The wash they used leaves a very sloppy pattern that is different for every single action figure. You wont’ be able to collect them all in this instance! The Capture Of The Droids Battle Packs set is good for really one sole purpose, and that is for collectors to get another stab at C-3PO. While C-3PO shipped in healthy numbers, demand wasn’t meant and here is your chance.
