Mandalorian Super Commando - TVC - Basic (VC353)

Darth Maul's loyal Mandalorians wear modified red and black armor to reflect allegiance to the Dark Lord, and some even fashion horns atop their helmets to better resemble their Nightbrother leader.

Coincidentally, this one is different. At first, we thought the Mandalorian Super Commando figure was a repaint of the Mandalorian Super Commando Captain. But it’s a hybrid of the two previously released Mandalorian Super Commando figures already part of The Vintage Collection. They needed to tool a new head sculpt and shoulder armor attachment to convert a standard Super Commando to a Super Commando Captain. Oh, and then repaint the figure, too. That said, the Mandalorian Super Commando is a kit-bashed figure that utilizes the body of 2022’s TVC Mandalorian Super Commando (VC243) figure with the portrait from the Captain figure. They’ve also repainted the figure to make it unique, from the animated version in The Clone Wars to the realistic version of Star Wars: Ahsoka. The helmet, which features Zabrak horns, comes with a smooth shoulder armor attachment this time, and then the figure is repainted with its unique traits and color scheme. The final figure turned out well and is a lovely addition to The Vintage Collection.

The Clone Wars left an indelible mark on those who watched and enjoyed the series. Unfortunately, many character collectors want to see Hasbro’s production get lost in the shuffle, especially characters from the later seasons. But when these characters get introduced into the dreadful Disney Star Wars content, we’ll inevitably see these characters again in the lineup. And here we are. Hasbro is producing its best 3.75-inch action figures to date. Adding the Mandalorian Super Commando Captain, also known as a Mandalorian Traditionalist, to the lineup only reinforces how far the line has come. Now we have a revisited version of that character with this new release, which admittedly contains many reused parts. Hasbro did a great job ensuring this action figure seamlessly streamlined into the line.  It looks like an athletic character, is well-armored, and has a decent number of accessories to make everyone happy. The jetpack is removable, and then Hasbro also included a blaster rifle and two blaster pistols, which fit into the molded holsters on the figure’s thighs.

The weapons and the jetpack have simple paint jobs and look slightly unfinished, but Hasbro makes up for it more than expected with the paint operations applied to the action figure. The figure also has a large Boba Fett-ish blaster rifle, which makes it look amazing while holding it. From the Darth Maul-esque design on the chest armor to the complementary tans and grays for the other parts of the figure, Hasbro thoughtfully planned out how this finished figure would look, exceeding our expectations. Whoever approves the final 3.75-inch action figures in this line should get promoted because they know what it takes to make quality products. The Mandalorian Super Commando Captain has updated ball-socket hip joints, which work wonders when posing. These newer joints function incredibly better than the ball-jointed hips that were common up until this change. The rest of the figure has ball-jointed movement throughout, and the portrait comes with the barbell joint that creates two spheres of 360-degree movement for optimal positioning. It’s a nice addition to the line.
