Darth Maul wields an intimidating double-bladed lightsaber and the power of the dark side.

The Epic Hero Series line confounds collectors as an unnecessary waste of time. Most of us wondered why Hasbro would develop another line of action figures that fall between the 3.75-inch and 6-inch scale of the Star Wars action figure brand. It’s not like the Epic Hero Series line competes with either. We’re talking about a 5POA line versus two super-articulated lines, but there is still some gap in the logic of why they’d bother with this. Kids have no interest in action figures, and collectors do not need another 5POA line, mainly when it does not introduce new characters that aren’t already part of the other lineups. That said, Darth Maul is a wise choice for this line, and Hasbro based the action figure on a realistic interpretation of the version we see in The Clone Wars. Darth Maul fits in well with the Epic Hero Series collection. It’s a simple action figure but designed and painted well. It has a double-bladed lightsaber, a removable armor piece, and a gigantic blast effect. You can plug the lightsaber accessories into the blast effect and then have Darth Maul hold it as desired. This release is eye-catching and may interest collectors who love the Zabrak. With limited articulation, the action figure cannot do much, but as a display piece, it works well. Aside from that, there isn’t much else to note about Darth Maul. Sadly, Hasbro believes an extra couple of accessories warrant a Deluxe status and a higher MSRP. But collectors are growing weary of their shenanigans, and enough is enough. The whole Epic Hero Series line feels wasted. And we don’t anticipate it having a long shelf life. But we will likely expect a few more pieces in the Epic Hero Series line before they call it quits.
