It didn’t take long for Hasbro to reuse the tooling of 2023’s TVC HK-87 Assassin Droid (VC294) figure to give us the other version of the character based on its appearance from Star Wars: Ahsoka. So, this newest release is not exciting nor engaging but a helpful action figure to help expand our display backgrounds. In the Star Wars: Ahsoka series, we see two distinct types. One functions as a guard, while the other functions as an infantry member. However, both take their cues from the HK-47 droid from Knights Of The Old Republic. Not many differences exist between the two versions; aside from the deco changes, the characters are identical. The HK-87 Assassin Droid is a fan-favorite action figure, and we believe incorporating a version of the droid into the new Ahsoka series was wise. After all, they need cool-looking background characters to populate the universe since the main characters are insufferably dull. Generally speaking, Star Wars collectors love droids, so seeing how these characters resonate with fans will be interesting.

In service to Morgan Elsbeth, the HK-87 Assassin Droids hunted Ahsoka Tano and Din Djarin in retaliation for trying to defeat Elsbeth. But, the two were able to destroy the droids and ultimately defeat Elsbeth. We originally got the all-red version in The Vintage Collection and this version in the Retro Collection. But now we have both in super-articulated splendor. We’re thrilled that Hasbro got smart and they got the alternate multi-colored version into The Vintage Collection as soon as possible. The Black Series 6-inch line has both flavors and now does The Vintage Collection. The all-new 3.75-inch super-articulated action figure is fun and excellently made. HK-87 Assassin Droid (Arcana) has an impressive 27 points of articulation and includes unique enhancements like ball-socket hips, swivel thighs, and “rocker” ankles to maximize lower body movement. While balancing the figure in action-oriented positions requires a little finesse, this figure can do it all well. The figure interacts with its parts well. Hasbro ensured everything here works seamlessly.

Hasbro incorporated great detail into the HK-87 Assassin Droid (Arcana) figure. When you remove the soft-goods cape, you can see how much thought went into this figure. The design of the figure’s structure is impressive. And the seamless incorporation of the articulation points is nothing short of amazing. Also, Hasbro accented the figure with silver details to show the joints’ mechanics and wear. There is a slot on the back of the figure to store the dried blaster when unused, but this feature works best when you remove the cape. This version has a double-pointed staff and holds it well for guarding and attack purposes. It’s the minor differences that help the army build your environments. In our opinion, the least exciting detail for the HK-87 Assassin Droid (Arcana) is its packaging. Hasbro lazily used the same base digital art for the character photo, just like the original. It also matches the packaging of the Retro Collection figure. That’s expected here, but it would be a little more interesting if they changed things up a little more than they do.
