It’s about time. Hasbro’s taken almost a half-decade to produce the Blurrg for The Vintage Collection line. And while it’s a few steps away from perfection, we’d say it’s not without merit and may impress in more ways than one. It is paired with a “newish” version of The Mandalorian, based on the character’s appearance on Arvala-7, which should make fans of the series very happy since the revised figure comes with enhanced articulation in the hips. The set is moderately expensive. For $39.99, we get an all-new “beast” or “creature,” in addition to a carded version of The Mandalorian (Arvala-7) (VC335) figure. It’s conglomerations like this that drive carded enthusiasts absolutely bonkers. Honestly, we’re not big fans of including an exclusive figure alongside a vehicle or creature (OR a HasLab project, for that matter). There hasn’t been an enhanced figure of The Mandalorian on store shelves in quite some time, and this would have been the perfect opportunity to throw this figure in a new case assortment for better distribution and availability.

We do feel that Hasbro did a remarkable job on the Blurrg, but they unfortunately cut corners for the figure’s articulation. They included ball-jointed shoulders, but no additional articulation is present on the arms. The hips are ball-socket joints; you must install most extremities once you open the box. The legs have more articulation than the arms, so we also get ball-jointed knees and “rocker” ankles, which help pose the Blurrg and balance as needed. We adore the hinge-jointed jaw. It opens wide, and Hasbro did a spectacular job with the paint operations inside the mouth. Generally speaking, the paint job throughout the figure also turned out beautifully. The Blurrg has a saddle (with reins) and a bridle for its accessories. All the accessories are removable, which gives you some interchangeability with the beast. The Blurrg looks appropriately sized, and when you pose The Mandalorian next to it, it seems to scale. We believe you’re going to enjoy what Hasbro accomplished with the Blurrg.

We are also happy to report that we are enjoying the revised The Mandalorian figure. While it uses a lot of parts from the VC166 figure, the selling point here is that Hasbro included ball-socket hips. They likely did this to allow for the best range of motion to straddle the Blurrg, but even if that wasn’t the case, it’s a welcomed addition to this now-classic action figure. The torso of The Mandalorian is new, as there is no hole for a backpack attachment. However, Hasbro still included the ray gun as a weapon for the character’s weaponry. We also get the standard blaster pistol here, but it looks like Hasbro upgraded the holster to house the blaster when not in use. You can install the gun correctly now, which is a massive upgrade. Overall, the Blurrg & The Mandalorian set is a lovely addition to The Vintage Collection. It’s a little pricy, but it’s something fans of the show have wanted for quite some time. It will be interesting to see how it performs at retail now; if we could get upgrades of Original Trilogy beasts, that would make us happy.
