Open up the Sandcrawler to reveal and build 6 new droids to celebrate along with them for 25 days this season! May the Force be with you... and you Droids!
This droid is optimized to function in the sparsely settled, unspoiled frontier world of Vandor. Join R6-SNO on their adventures throughout the galaxy!
In a first for the Droid Factory line, but not a first for Star Wars, Disney releases the Droid Factory Advent Calendar to much eagerness and surprise to collectors who buy this range of astromech and other droids. The set confounded collectors when Disney claimed there would be 25 Droid Factory figures included with the set. But instead, they meant that collectors and kids of all ages could build six droids across 25 days, a big difference on all counts. The set exceeded our expectations, but you have to appreciate the festive approach a gift set like this offers. Some droids are welcomed additions to the line, while others are downright scary. The revisited “Chopper” droid is perhaps our favorite, but the standard astromech droids styled to look like an elf, and a gift of gold (complete with mistletoe) are vibrant inclusions. Admittedly, we’re unsure what to make of the black-domed R5 unit. It’s either a derivation of a nutcracker or toy soldier, but it comes across a little bit like blackface – and our interpretation is not an accusation of something nefarious; it’s just that they could have chosen a better color scheme. The BB unit looks like a Christmas ball, and the GNK droid, dressed up to look like a present under the tree, might be the best addition here. It’s also the Christmas day reveal and comes whole, not in any pieces, behind door number 25. You’re getting a literal present for a present.
The Droid Factory Advent Calendar set sold out rather quickly and is already going for a bunch of money on the aftermarket. Its original MSRP is $69.99. With the success of this year’s release, we bet that this may become annual, so start saving. We wish that Disney would have prepared names and bios for these droids. The back of the box describes R6-SNO (the separately packaged snowman astromech droid). Was that figure supposed to be included in the box, but they forgot? Still, it would be helpful to know the names of all of these droid companions. Perhaps Disney can release a memo once this year passes and provide official names to those who purchased this set. We love the concept of this set, and it’s a beautiful way to celebrate the Christmas season and the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. We hope Disney plans to release additional sets with a few changes.
