KX Security Droid - TBS [P4] - Six Inch Figures (GG15)

It’s another repack or repaint, and The Black Series 6-inch line is full of them lately. Worse, Hasbro is charging an arm and a leg for them too. The new video game Star Wars Jedi: Survivor presents a diverse cast of heroes and villains. And although Hasbro released many figures from the game before its release, they’re familiar and seemingly welcomed additions to the line. KX Security Droid is a retool and repaint of 2016’s TBS [P3] K-2SO (24) figure. They tooled an all-new backpack with wiring that comes down the droid’s right side and is attached to the bicep and wrist of the droid’s right arm. It looks good, but the rest of the figure is similar to what we’ve seen released already, so the character is boring. There have already been three releases of K-2SO thus far in the line. So, this is number four. The first version had white photoreceptors, and the running change variant came with white photoreceptors with red pupils. For the “third” release of K-2SO, Hasbro reverted to the original version of the character. They renamed the character and gave it new parts for the fourth version. Check out the fine lines of color that beautifully frame the KX Security Droid’s controls, buttons, and gears. Look at how Hasbro carefully placed the “insignia” and how they added personality without overshadowing the integrity of the sculpt. Look at how the joints bend and allow the collector to situate the droid in various poses. These and more are all things that we should expect from all of the action figures Hasbro produces for us. We’re particularly fond of how they attached this droid’s head too. They’ve crafted an inverted ball-socket joint for the neck and a typical ball-socket joint for the head. But the range of movement you get from this “double” ball-socket articulation is pretty impressive. Because of the droid’s natural design, Hasbro needed to work in hinge-jointed and swivel articulation to many of the droid’s areas, but they’re all aesthetically accurate.
