The marshal of Mos Pelgo, a small town on Tatooine, Cobb Vanth has earned the trust of the townsfolk as a capable peacekeeper and leader.

Hasbro once again believes they can pull the wool over the eyes of the 6-inch collector community by placing a basic figure and spreading the accessories in a larger box. They believe this equals a “deluxe” action figure. But we all know better now. It’s a scam. And Hasbro wants to scam you out by inflating the price of the Cobb Vanth Fan Channel exclusive 6-inch figure from The Black Series [Phase IV] lineup. It’s not that it’s not an excellent action figure because it is. We’re just sick and tired that Hasbro believes there is nothing wrong with false advertising. If the basic release of the Obi-Wan Kenobi (Wandering Jedi) (OWK01) comes with more accessories than Cobb Vanth, then how does Cob Vanth command a higher MSRP? It’s embarrassing at this point. The choice of Cobb Vanth in The Mandalorian is equally puzzling. Didn’t we have a character similar to this in the comics? Jodo Kast was another Mandalorian-esque character trying to pose as Boba Fett, and we all know how well that panned out. We suppose it’s time to do it again in The Mandalorian.

Cobb Vanth is known as The Sheriff and later The Marshal in various Star Wars sources. Do you believe Lucasfilm first introduced this character in the dreadful Chuck Wendig novel trilogy entitled Aftermath? The character begins as a former slave who has used the Mandalorian armor of Boba Fett to bring order to Tatooine “Freetown” Mos Pelgo five years after the 1983 film Return of the Jedi. In the trilogy, Cobb faces off against the Red Key Raiders mining collective, the Tusken Raiders, and a krayt dragon. The character has some exciting moments in the Star Wars saga, so Disney Star Wars believed he would be an ample character in The Mandalorian Disney+ series. Cobb Vanth debuts in the second season of The Mandalorian series. The timeline is set a month after the events of the Wendig trilogy, and Vanth joins forces with the Tuskens to defeat the krayt dragon. The character also reprised the role in the spin-off series, The Book of Boba Fett, where Cobb Vanth comes in contact with the Pyke Syndicate and Cad Bane. They engage in battle.

The figure is relatively excellent. The likeness of the action figure reminds us more of a young George Lucas than actor Timothy Olyphant. It also looks like Mr. Olyphant, but we see less of a likeness to the actor who portrayed the character. The actor has a tall and lanky body type, and Hasbro replicated this detail excellently in the action figure. Boba Fett faithfully inspires the chest armor and removable helmet of Cobb Vanth, but the rest of the costume is unique, including the jetpack, pants, belt, and red undershirt. Cobb Vanth doesn’t come with too many accessories. Hasbro included a smaller blaster pistol and a blaster rifle, both used by the character in the series. Then we also get the removable helmet and a removable jetpack (with removable rocket). That’s all we get here. From what we can tell, Cobb Vanth is all-new tooling, so we understand why Hasbro wants to get a little more money for it, but many other all-new action figures fit into the basic figure assortment, so the reasoning for the “deluxe” format eludes us.
