If you look back on the long, rich history of The Vintage Collection, there are many figures you’ll quickly assess as works of art that Hasbro can’t better. That is until they better them. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Wandering Jedi) illustrates this observation perfectly. The figure isn’t perfect, but its relative flawlessness should show every collector how far Hasbro brought action figure-making into the here, now, and future. Whether it’s a perfectly fitted robe or a likeness that makes you do a doubletake, these things should reassure every collector that The Vintage Collection is a premium collectors line despite its periodic warts and incessant repacking. Let’s start with the figure’s portrait. While we won’t say that it’s a dead ringer of Ewan McGregor from a “straight on” view, you might freak yourself out while looking at the head sculpt from the side view. We’re amazed at the lifelike result Hasbro achieved here. They found a way to create an aged appearance of Obi-Wan Kenobi while ensuring that it doesn’t look too many years off from the Prequel Trilogy. Regardless, the final action figure turned out brilliantly, which impressed us greatly.

We’re not too crazy about Obi-Wan Kenobi’s outfit in this series. It looks like the character wears bulky athletic socks. The character must need a more relaxed outfit for the heat on Tatooine, but some of it seems contrived. But that’s no fault on Hasbro for recreating what they see from the reference materials. We want to reiterate our amazement at the fitted robe included with the figure. Firstly, we’re grateful that Hasbro included this accessory, especially since they rip off The Black Series 6-inch collectors by not having soft-goods robes with all of their Jedi figures. Hasbro found the ideal material and chose a cut that compliments the figure’s body. And you’re left with many options to pose the figure without or without it on when displaying it. Hasbro designed all-new lightsaber and hilt accessories. They drilled a hole in the rear beltline of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the hilt’s peg fits beautifully inside of it. It doesn’t fall out because there is enough friction to keep it in place. The hilt on the lightsaber accessory and the hilt accessory are notable “smaller” and significantly “thinner” than all past versions. We’re not sure what Hasbro is going for here, but they don’t fit well in the figure’s larger hands because they appear too small.

Hasbro also included a blaster pistol with Obi-Wan Kenobi (Wandering Jedi) and tooled a functioning holster on the belt. We find it odd that Disney Star Wars gave the character a blaster, especially when Obi-Wan Kenobi believes they’re so uncivilized and regrettably used them only a handful of times and only in a pinch. However, the blaster pistol fits well in the figure’s right hand. The neatest accessories with Obi-Wan Kenobi (Wandering Jedi) are the two versions of L0-LA59. Hasbro included a single-part version with a tiny clear display stand (two parts total). And then they included a version that breaks down into four separate pieces to recreate the various scenes, including the battle damage it sustained and the adding of a tracker in it to follow Leia Organa until Obi-Wan Kenobi realizes what’s inside of it. They then remove the device from L0-LA59. These parts are so tiny we have to give Hasbro credit that they included these fine additions to this figure. When you add up all of the pieces here, we get ten accessories with Obi-Wan Kenobi (Wandering Jedi). So why did the “Deluxe” version of Boba Fett (Tatooine) come with fewer accessories and cost double? The Deluxe format is a scam! For those who don’t know, L0-LA59 is Leia’s droid named after Carrie Fisher’s bird. It’s lovely that Disney Star Wars paid homage to the actress in this fashion.
