A protocol DROID conversant in over 6MM forms of communication. He is seeking a new master with his friend R2-D2.

Almost two years ago, JTA worked with a couple of major retailers to suggest ideas for their exclusive programs, and Droids characters were at the top of our suggestions. It’s almost a dream to see these fantastic characters get picked up by Target as part of the 50th Anniversary of Lucasfilm Ltd. line, and the only way collectors would have an opportunity to purchase them. Although not “officially’ under The Vintage Collection banner, we’re placing them in this collector-focused line for many reasons. Firstly, there is no other 3.75-inch line of Star Wars figures aside from those in The Vintage Collection. The Retro Collection is a 5POA line based on Kenner sculpts so that one doesn’t count either. Also, what other line would the Droids characters fall under that not only sport a Kenner logo but are based on a line of classic vintage Kenner action figures from which The Vintage Collection is based? You won’t find any VC sequence numbers on these figures, nor will you find The Vintage Collection logo. But who honestly cares? From the glorious George Lucas era of Star Wars, the long-awaited Droids characters help the original four-decade fans forget the disgrace Disney Star Wars is for a bit. And they harken us back to a time when Star Wars was everything to us.

It’s important to point out immediately that Hasbro didn’t break any new ground with the Droids See-Threepio (C-3PO) figure. Hasbro took the 2010’s/2020’s TVC See-Threepio (C-3PO) (VC06) figure, repainted it in the character’s colors from Droids, and placed it on gorgeous Kenner-inspired Droids packaging. The best part is that Hasbro decided to bring the Collector Coin back for the second time in “The Vintage Collection,” the first is you exclude the coin included with The Power Of The Force Yak Face figure part of Jabba’s Sail Barge (The Khetanna). It’s lovely to see the coins available again, and we hope Hasbro has a few surprises up their sleeves and continues to release other The Power Of The Force carded figures with coins. Not all 3.75-inch collectors are fans of The Power Of The Force line look from 1985, but most Kenner collectors love this elusive line and all of the characters that never made it into the new packaging. Imagine what Hasbro could accomplish if they decided to think outside the box and release new figures or re-release older figures in the updating packaging with coins. It would be a day that was long remembered. That said, we’re incredibly pleased with the packaging of the new Droids See-Threepio (C-3PO) figure. Hasbro updated the coloring to look unique and refreshing, and it’s beautiful.

We get the same features because Hasbro used the See-Threepio (C-3PO) (VC06) figure to produce the Droids version. It also offers us a first time looking at many of the characters’ inside parts, supposedly as they appeared in the cartoon series. The faceplate, the chest plate, the backplate, and the thigh plate are all removable, as is the figure’s head sculpt, torso, and lower right leg. See-Threepio (C-3PO) offers an incredible amount of play value, and well as the value of your dollar. This figure is designed complexly, and thanks to the all-new paint job, you can see the figure’s intense design, astounding detail and hopefully appreciate what Hasbro worked into this fun action figure. The paint operations are fantastic here. They’re the standout feature of this action figure. The bright yellow body, accented with tan or bronze accents, is brought together with the dark blue highlights found across the action figure’s body. And you’ll get a heavy dose of dark blue paint when you remove the faceplate and chest plate. Overall, we’re thrilled to see something old made new again thanks to imaginative ingenuity and a focus on nostalgia. All of these pieces work incredibly well together to create something collectible. We hope that plenty of units make it to the store level because this is an action figure that all should appreciate.
