This distinctive collection features premium deco applications inspired by the end credit images from The Mandalorian, plus a collectible Imperial Credit accessory. After the fall of the Galactic Empire, usage of their form of money, Imperial Credits, became less common with many planets refusing payments in the currency on principle.

The Black Series “Credit Collection” is a subset of Hasbro’s The Mandalorian action figure with unique paint jobs based on the concept art of the series. Not all that different from the “carbonized” figures, the “Credit Collection” is a little more focused as all of the characters are from a single Disney Star Wars source. The action figures are artful and colorful. Although they have the same tooling as the regular counterparts, Hasbro added a special “Imperial credit” accessory and placed the figures in vintage Kenner-inspired packaging for additional collectability. Due to The Mandalorian Disney+ series’s popularity, the figures part of the “Credit Collection” line are quite popular, and collectors are scooping them up without much thought to the elevated MSRP. The figures retail for $24.99, and each is exclusive to a specific retail chain. The Imperial Death Trooper made its debut in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but Dave Filoni and the company decided to add them to The Mandalorian, so their story continues in the Star Wars franchise. Initially released in 2016, the Imperial Death Trooper enters the line again in a completely different color.

The Imperial Death Trooper has a unique look and design, and the regular versions of these characters come encased in shiny black armor. These members of the Galactic Empire are now part of The Mandalorian. They served as bodyguards to Director Krennic in Rogue One, and now they’re part of the remaining Galactic Empire remnant, and it will be interesting to see where their storyline goes. Part of the inaugural wave of The Black Series [Phase III] 6” figures launched on September 30, 2016, the Imperial Death Trooper was an excellent choice for launch, and it’s a better choice for The Mandalorian now. The figure’s original sheen is gone thanks to a flat matte gray armor color for the “Credit Collection” version. But Hasbro also added purple and orange throughout the armor to give it depth and dimension. The sculpt is beautiful. Hasbro painstakingly recreated every last detail from the on-screen costume in this action figure from what we can tell. Yes, this is based on concept art, but the tooling is realistic. Hasbro painstakingly crafted this 6” toy. From the crisp lines on the helmet to rounded edges of the armor, the Imperial Death Trooper is a standout member of the Galactic Empire.

The Black Series 6” collectors may be disappointed that the elbows are only ball-jointed instead of double hinge-jointed, but we prefer the former. Double hinge-jointed elbows aesthetically aren’t pleasing to our eyes, but we understand and empathize with collectors who feel that type of articulation offers a broader range of movement, especially for holding weapons. In our opinion, the Imperial Death Trooper looks good, holding a gun. It matters that the double hinge-jointed elbows provide more range of motion. We’re happy Hasbro went in the direction they did for this character. The Imperial Death Trooper is a character that collectors want to army-build, which might frustrate them when the figures are $5 more than the standard releases. As we’ve mentioned, The Mandalorian quickly became one of the most popular Star Wars Entertainment since the Disney takeover. The Sequel Trilogy didn’t come close to meeting the wishes of longtime Star Wars fans, and The Mandalorian is as close as Disney Star Wars will get to the Original Trilogy. As far as collecting, we should expect to see Hasbro continue this trend of reusing as many existing sculpts as possible to bring novel and quirky action figures to the line. They just weren’t prepared for the show’s success.
