Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order features Purge Troopers, a new class of soldiers who assist the Inquisitors in hunting down any remaining Jedi.

Hasbro must love it when there are differently colored army builders once they’ve developed a sculpt for one. It means that a new paint job will allow them to amortize the tooling expenses and charge full price for a repeat character that is “new” to the collecting community. This assessment applies to the GameStop exclusive Gaming Greats Electrostaff Purge Trooper figure. In late 2019, Hasbro paired The Black Series [Phase III] Purge Stormtrooper with a videogame bundle. It remains elusive, and it was time to get the character out into the line once again. But instead of repacking the figure, Hasbro decided to change things up a bit and produce a revitalized or new version of the Electrostaff Purge Trooper’s character. This time, the figure comes with a black pauldron and an electrostaff with two effects. Interestingly, we still don’t have an Airborne Trooper, but we have its head sculpt. In all honesty, the Electrostaff Purge Trooper feels no different than any other GameStop exclusive TBS6 Hasbro release. As you know by now, the Electrostaff Purge Trooper has mostly rehashed parts mixed with new paint operations. Some fans of the 6” line are tired of clones, but the fresh approach the Electrostaff Purge Trooper takes is something we’re confident will interest the most jaded of collectors (when it comes to Prequel Trilogy clones).

Electrostaff Purge Trooper doesn’t feel any different from the various Skittles-colored Clone Trooper action figures Hasbro produced in the day (from 2005 up until The Vintage Collection went active in 2010). We received a ton of Clone Trooper action figures throughout those years, all in different colors and styles. From the Order 66 sets from the 30 (77-07) line to the various single-carded figures, we got our fair share of colorful clones. Hasbro produced a smaller series of “shadow” Clone Trooper action figures as well. And this is where the Electrostaff Purge Trooper comes into play. Looking more like the character ripped right out of Hasbro’s 3.75” line, the Purge Stormtrooper resembles one of the “shadow” Clone Troopers, as the Utapau Shadow Trooper Hasbro made years ago, for example. It’s great to see how some of Hasbro’s earliest action figures are inspiring the line today. The Electrostaff Purge Trooper has a name that feels like it wrongly identifies the character, but the finished figure turned out well beyond our expectations. We’re confident that Star Wars collectors around the world will enjoy it tremendously. Hasbro didn’t go too crazy with the figure’s accessories, but the figure comes with a removable pauldron and a weapon used by the Separatist Droid Army: the electrostaff. Why is a clone concerning itself with this?

The biggest disappointment here is that the elctrostaff feels too big. But we could be incorrect about that detail also. It looks completely different than the weapons used by the MagnaGuard characters. There is a large amount of detail etched into the accessory. We wonder if Hasbro has plans to use it with other figures in the future. Still, it feels too long and bulky, and it is cumbersome to interact with the figure. Most aggravating, however, is the electrostaff effects. They loosely hang on the electrostaff and do not stay in place for anything. If you turn the staff, they go flying. These effects should snap in place and stay put. If you’re shooting a gallery, you’re going to get aggravated. The Electrostaff Purge Trooper is based on the 2014 The Black Series [Phase I] Clone Trooper (#14) figure along with the pauldron from 2013’s The Black Series [Phase I] Sandtrooper (#03) figure. Hasbro added an all-new portrait of what most Star Wars fans identify as an Airborne Trooper (cast in black plastic with no contrasting details). The look of this figure is as odd as it is interesting. Looking at the figure, you can quickly see how this character would be one of the clones to wipe out the remaining Jedi after the main event of Order 66 transpired. Hasbro achieved a stunning glossy finish on the Electrostaff Purge Trooper. It retails for $24.99.
