THE BOOK
A stunning, fully illustrated history of Darth Vader. Star Wars' most dreaded and feared villain, compiled by Stephen Sansweet, author of the Star Wars Scrapbook and a foremost Star Wars authority.
One of the best Hasbro-produced Star Wars 12 Inch Figures of all time was the Anakin (The Story Of Darth Vader) release. Part of an interesting and new collectible format by the pairing of a book with a large-sized action figure, Hasbro developed the Masterpiece Series line to bridge the gap between those who loved Star Wars books and those who loved Star Wars toys. The Masterpiece Edition series is the manifestation of the beautiful amalgamation incorporating the two formats, but sadly, a far-reaching MSRP prevented many collectors from considering their purchase. Collectors desperate to complete the 12 Inch Figures line had to shelve out $75 for a figure they wanted, and perhaps a book they didn’t want. The luxurious, colorful, and trapezoidal packaging appeared to help give the set some extra value to the $75.00 MSRP, but what good is value if you’re a young adult collector who doesn’t have that kind of disposable income? But if you did purchase the Anakin (The Story Of Darth Vader) Masterpiece Edition set, you know what a treat it is. Both the figure and the book have specially-sized compartments inside the large, durable box. And Anakin Skywalker might be the best “Action Collection” styled figure by Kenner/Hasbro of all time. With a fantastic likeness to actor Sebastian Shaw, Hasbro presented Anakin Skywalker in a format that’s technically somewhere within the Expanded Universe timeline. As you know, we only see Anakin Skywalker in Jedi robes as a Force spirit in the conclusion of Return Of The Jedi. Here, they present the figure as a real-life character, and someone never saw anywhere within the Original Trilogy as is. Still, there are far too few "Sebastian SHaw" likenesses in collectible format of Anakin Skywalker. No matter. The Anakin Skywalker figure, the excellent The Story Of Darth Vader book by Stephen Sansweet, and the whole presentation with deluxe packaging reinforce to collectors what Hasbro is capable of producing for collectors. And if you can find a place in your heart to consider this set, it will be one of your proudest pieces in your collection.
