Star Wars: Battlefront II features Heavy Battle Droids, modified B1 Battle Droids armed with heavy blaster rifles, and shield emitters to deflect most incoming enemy fire.

Well, the Heavy Battle Droid is not much more than Hasbro phoning it in for collectors. The only reason why we have this figure in our collections now is that they produced a B1 Battle Droid for the basic figure line a year before this release. Surprisingly, there aren’t more iterations of the B1 Battle Droid in the line. If this were the 3.75” line, we likely would have had half a dozen versions of this character by now. But Hasbro is taking it slowly for The Black Series [Phase III] 6” line. The Heavy Battle Droid is nothing extraordinary. Looking slightly different than the Battle Droids that were seen during the Battle of Geonosis in Attack Of The Clones, this Star Wars: Battlefront II character also has black color flashing throughout its body, and a few more wear spots giving it a unique appearance in the Star Wars universe. If you’re not into video gaming, then this character won’t mean much to you, but if you’re looking to flesh out your Separatist Droid Army, then this might be a droid you want to add to your collection. With beautiful paint operations and a fantastic articulation system, the Heavy Battle Droid is not a figure you should immediately ignore. You may want to think about this one a little longer.

It’s still difficult to process that we only have two B1 Battle Droid figures in The Black Series 6” line in the seven or eight years since the line’s inception. A sculpt that can be amortized countless times seems like the one to rush tooling first. But instead, they waited much too long to show this Prequel Trilogy character the love it deserves. The Heavy Battle Droid is another fantastic release, and it makes sense why Hasbro chose this as the next exclusive for GameStop. And 6” collectors are going to love it. We’d claim that this figure is almost perfection in a box. Still, aside from wishing there was a tad more articulation in the hips and knees (360-degree movement to be specific), the Heavy Battle Droid is a figure that 6” collectors are going to want to army build in substantial numbers. The only thing that will stop them is the cost. With an astounding 30 points of articulation, including premium ball-jointed articulation and a paint job that is as beautiful as the tooling, the Heavy Battle Droid ranks up there with some of Hasbro’s greatest 6” figures of all time. Yes, it’s only a repaint of the original Battle Droid release, but they did a lot here. Unlike the first release, the Heavy Battle Droid comes with many more accessories.

You can pose the Heavy Battle Droid figure in some pretty energetic action poses thanks to the figure’s articulation. It holds its poses well thanks to great anchoring in the sculpt and sleek design. Some poses require a little more attention than others, but generally speaking, the Heavy Battle Droid can attain almost any position you require. Whether folded up or blasting the enemies in the Star Wars: Battlefront II universe, the Heavy Battle Droid can do it all. It comes with a removable backpack that snaps on firmly onto the figure’s dorsal side. And it comes with articulated antennae, which is a very nice touch. You can remove the backpack and replace it with the longer antennae attachment, so you’re able to own both kinds of B1 Battle Droids in your collection. The figure also comes with its signature droid blaster. Precise articulation allows the Heavy Battle Droid to hold it with one hand or two hands. Owning a diverse Battle Droid army is enjoyable for Star Wars collectors. The Heavy Battle Droid is a wonderful addition to the 6” line, but we want to see so many others, like OOM-9 and Security Battle Droids. There are so many B1s Hasbro can produce for the line, so we hope they get to it soon!
