Jedi Knight Revan - TBS [P3] - Six Inch Figures (Exclusive)

Jedi Knight Revan? Who is that? If you follow video gaming as little as we do, you may not know the update made to the game in recent years. In celebration of Knights Of The Old Republic’s 15th anniversary, Electronic Arts added a Jedi Knight Revan character to the “Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes” as a playable character on October 18, 2018. Related, a few months later, they also updated the game so that the character’s Sith version, Darth Revan, became an unlockable character, the first time for a Dark Side mythic character indeed. A few years late, which is right-on-time for Hasbro, they’ve released the newly updated Jedi Knight Revan figure in The Black Series [Phase III] 6” line. With a mixed response from collectors, it still sold very quickly, and those who missed out are waiting for GameStop to restock it in their stores and on their website. There are many interesting facts about the Darth Revan character. We know that Darth Revan is a former Sith Lord that is suffering from amnesia. Only the player knows the fact that Darth Revan was brainwashed with a false identity by Jedi Knights towards the end of the game. Interestingly, the player views the playable character as someone without any predetermined identity, and Darth Revan is presumed to be dead until the end. Also, of note, Darth Revan is customizable, meaning that the character's appearance, sex, abilities, and decisions are all arbitrary selections. However, canonically, Darth Revan is a male character and follows the light side path within the game.

Frankly, we’re not impressed with Jedi Knight Revan as an action figure. While we thoroughly believed that The Black Series [Phase III] Darth Revan (34) action figure was another beautiful work of art, it lacked terribly in its movement. Despite being loaded with premium articulation, you could do very little in terms of posing Darth Revan. As you might expect here, the same is true. Hasbro reworked the original Darth Revan (34) figure to bring us Jedi Knight Revan. So visually, the action figure is beautiful. Functionally, you’re going to be frustrated. The basics are clearly in place here. Jedi Knight Revan has a great sculpt as expected. But the paint operations, while clean, aren’t necessarily accurate to what is visible in still images of the video game or concept art. Hasbro took new approaches to recreate this version of the character’s soft-goods. They ultimately look better than the first release, but the cream-colored white used washed out so much of the figure’s silhouette. When you look at the figure, all you pay attention to are its head sculpt and forearms, and perhaps a portion of the figure’s chest. That’s all that stands out here. Everything else about the character is a wash, figuratively and literally. Once again, Jedi Knight Revan’s hood isn’t removable much to our chagrin. There isn’t a way to appreciate the details of the head sculpt, or see the character’s head, or be given an alternate way of posing it. Right now it’s tough to appreciate the head sculpt because of how the hood obstructs its view.

As with all The Black Series 6” figures, it's almost impossible for them not to have excellent sculpts and articulation systems. Jedi Knight Revan is the same. BUT. The figure doesn’t move that well. Ultimately his shoulder, arms, hips, and legs don’t move all too well. Sure, you can get Jedi Knight Revan in some acceptable poses. But the figure is too chunky in spots and these spots prevent you from getting the full range of movement these joints should be able to provide, including the head joint. Admittedly, we’re frustrated that we can barely move Jedi Knight Revan’s head. Because the head sculpt is separate from the “locked” hood, you can force the head left and right (you can barely grasp it, however) to give the figure some options. But we believe in the end; you’ll also feel that Hasbro should have produced a head/hood combination that was more freeing for the figure. There are some wonderful details sculpted into Jedi Knight Revan, but the ability to dynamically pose it isn’t one of them. Here’s another bit of trivia for you. Revan was originally slated to appear in The Clone Wars television show in season 3 in an episode entitled "Ghosts of Mortis." However, Revan was deleted from the episode because the character conflicted with how George Lucas viewed the Force. Darth Revan was in direct conflict with that belief and understanding. Whether Jedi Knight Revan or Darth Revan make an appearance now in the seventh season of The Clone Wars remains to be seen. Fans would embrace the inclusion, we’re sure.
