Celebrate the legacy of Star Wars, the action-and-adventure-packed space saga from a galaxy far, far away, with this collection of premium, highly-detailed 3.75-inch scale figures and vehicles. (Each sold separately. Subject to availability.)

Most collectors of The Vintage Collection realized that once Hasbro produced and released the 2018 TVC Stormtrooper (Mimban) (VC123) figure, we’d soon receive new iterations of Imperial Stormtroopers from across the Star Wars universe. Hasbro didn’t make Star Wars collectors wait long. Soon, the released the Rogue One Imperial Stormtrooper (VC140) figure. And now a short while after that figure, we have the Remnant Stormtrooper (VC165) based on the characters from The Mandalorian series on Disney+. Shortly before the Remnant Stormtrooper’s release, Hasbro surprised collectors with an unexpected announcement of The Vintage Collection Imperial Troop Transport vehicle. Now, we have a nice-sized environmental backdrop from the beloved television show. The Remnant Stormtrooper has a fantastic base sculpt, so all collectors know what they’ll be getting here. But the figure also has some drawbacks. We’ll go over them all, which we hope will allow you to determine if this figure is for you. Overall, we believe that collectors of The Vintage Collection line will fall for the Remnant Stormtrooper action figure. Getting any Imperial Stormtrooper in a super-articulated line goes over hugely with collectors. The Remnant Stormtrooper is no exception.

The Remnant Stormtrooper is a repaint of 2019’s TVC Imperial Stormtrooper (VC140) figure. Hasbro added tan dirt, black carbon-scoring, and other battle-damage to give the Remnant Stormtrooper a unique appearance. The only issue here is that all of the figures have the same markings. They’re clones of each other. You cannot tell them apart. The lack of uniqueness is problematic for army building purposes. You can have MULTIPLES of the all-white Imperial Stormtroopers, and it doesn’t matter because they are clones of each other. But the Remnant Stormtrooper falls into the same category. How can every single Remnant Stormtrooper look like each other? They can’t have the same battle-damage markings. So, this is the biggest area where the Remnant Stormtrooper falls short. The deco is interesting. We were immediately reminded of the Death Troopers from the 2009 novel entitled Death Troopers. Between the bone-colored armor with cracks and other battle-damage markings, the only thing the Remnant Stormtrooper is missing to look like a Death Trooper is a zombie visible underneath the armor. Regardless, the Remnant Stormtrooper looks amazing against the Imperial Troop Transport backdrop. They interact with the vehicle beautifully, and collectors will love how they’re specific to The Mandalorian series.

Hasbro worked in an astounding 30 points of premium articulation into this figure/sculpt. We love the ball-socket head with the reverse ball-socket neck joint. It gives the figure a wonderful range of movement in the head, creating an eerily human-like movement. We hope they don’t change this approach going forward. But the goodness doesn’t stop there. Hasbro loaded the figure with revised ball-jointed points of articulation, and the chunky armor barely inhibits the figure’s full range of movement in these areas. For example, the elbows bend at an angle that is not only realistic but practical to the figure. He can hold the included E-11 blaster with both hands and in an upwards angle ready for battle. And you can outstretch his arms and make most of the shoulder movement, too. The inclusion of ball-jointed wrists is like the icing on the cake. We have to credit Hasbro with carefully integrating such utilitarian movement in this action figure. Likewise, Hasbro tooled the armor in a way that optimizes the figure’s articulation and movement as well. They work in tandem to allow for the largest range of movement. Articulation enthusiasts will be thrilled once they realize the poses they’ll achieve, thanks to how Hasbro worked them into this figure’s articulation system. From ball-jointed hips to ball-jointed ankles, the Remnant Stormtrooper can achieve an amazing amount of positions, and is an amazing work of art once again.
