One of Jabba the Hutt's top agents, very little is known about the mysterious Saelt-Marae or his specific connection to the crime lord. He could often be found hanging out in Jabba's desert palace.

It was a grueling two year wait for Kenner/Hasbro to produce a long-awaited modern update to the illusive 1985 Kenner Yak Face figure. The original figure was an international exclusive, never making its way to the USA officially. It had to be imported by collectors to get here. As one of the most obscure figures from the entire vintage era, collectors couldn’t wait for Kenner/Hasbro to produce a modern update that would be more screen accurate in size and appearance. They succeeded. With a name change and a new outfit, Saelt-Marae (Yak Face) enters The Power Of The Force “2” like with a warm welcome from Star Wars fans everywhere. The figure shares many similarities to the vintage Kenner figure, but also introduces new aspects, although it’s hard to tell exactly how screen accurate these new inflections are. No matter what, Kenner/Hasbro has done a great job of translating this character into the modern line. Saelt-Marae (Yak Face) is tall without being lanky and colorful without being obnoxious. In short, the figure is a really wonderful addition to the basic figure line. So how exactly does he stack up?

Saelt-Marae (Yak Face) comes with all of the standard articulation you’d expect him to have. A swivel head is joined by swivel shoulders, swivel hips and a swivel waist. In the case of Saelt-Marae (Yak Face), the head joint is inhibited because of the large surface area the base of the neck takes up in comparison to the top of the body which it sits. It’s alright though because the figure really doesn’t need that much head movement in all actuality. The figure’s sculpt is very, very nice. Saelt-Marae (Yak Face) comes with long arms and extremely large hands, yet they’ve been sculpted excellently to allow for holding the included battle staff accessory (which looks great in the figure’s hands by the way). He is very tall and towers over many figures in the line, but this is great as he definitely was a tall character in Jabba’s palace and sail barge. The color palette of Saelt-Marae (Yak Face) is a little bright, too bright in fact. Whether it was the dim lighting in Jabba’s palace or not, we don’t think Yak Face’s threads were this colorful. But we will play it safe by saying that we’re not exactly certain about this. The bottom line is that the outfit doesn’t look terrible. It’s just noticeably brighter than the vintage Kenner figure.

As mentioned, Saelt-Marae (Yak Face) comes with a battle staff. Again, who the heck knows if this is remotely screen accurate or not, but it is certainly a nice addition for this action figure. The other accessory is very difficult to remove, but it is possible if you’re determined. Saelt-Marae (Yak Face) also comes with a removable robe shell, but he just doesn’t look right without it. There are too many gaps around his neck and shoulders which makes this style of the figure appear awkward. Aside from not having nearly enough articulation, Saelt-Marae (Yak Face) is pretty darn nice. The head sculpt looks fantastic, although it is pointed up a little bit too high, and the added white hair doesn’t look fake or anything. They have really done a thorough job with this action figure. We’re pleasantly surprised with him. Saelt-Marae (Yak Face) was so popular that he was carried forward into the Freeze Frame phase of The Power Of The Force “2” line. It’s nice to see him in this capacity because it feels very similar to the 1985 Power Of The Force line when figures came with coins. It’s nice to have a pack-in that is complementary to the figure inside. This is a nice figure. It will be interesting to see if Hasbro decides to revisit him in the future.
