Disguised as the bounty hunter Boushh, Leia infiltrated Jabba's palace as part of a small rescue team to free Han Solo. Leia was captured and forced to endure the status of Jabba's slave until the opportunity to escape presented itself.

Arguably the biggest news of 1997 was the official Kenner announcement of the long-awaited Princess Leia Organa (As Jabba’s Prisoner) action figure. It was so eagerly anticipated that even retailers like Toys R Us posted signs in the Star Wars section that she was coming soon to pegs everywhere. And when she was released, she quickly became one of Kenner’s best-selling figures of all time. By the end of the 1997 calendar year, Princess Leia Organa (As Jabba’s Prisoner) was topping the critics’ polls of multiple action figure/collecting magazines and websites. And it was all for good reason. Kenner created a feminine and arguable sexy version of Princess Leia that we have wanted since the dawn of time. And they ensured that they got plenty out there to meet the outrageous demand she commanded. Still not possessing the desired amount of articulation needed to get her in a seated position next to Jabba The Hutt, Princess Leia Organa (As Jabba’s Prisoner) is nonetheless one of the finest figures created for The Power Of The Force “2” [Green/Freeze Frame] line. Aside from being too tall when compared to other action figures in the line (like Luke Skywalker and Han Solo), it’s our guess that simply just “having” Princess Leia Organa (As Jabba’s Prisoner) in your collection will supersede any of her negatives.

Princess Leia Organa (As Jabba’s Prisoner) comes with five points of articulation. She has swivel articulation in her neck, shoulders, waist and hips. Obviously this won’t get her into a seated position, but hopefully you will be able to resign yourself into posing her in positions where she was standing (like at the Battle of Carkoon). The removable chain is a nice feature here. It wraps around her neck tightly and the chain itself has some flexibility to it so you can have another action figure lead her around as needed. The sculpt is quite nice. She may not have that “beautiful” facial sculpt as she did in the film, but Hasbro made vast improvements to her likeness that just didn’t come close with the very first “monkey” Princess Leia Organa action figures released in 1995. She has delicately sculpted arms and the accoutrements on her body like arm bracelets and jewelry have been faithfully represented here. We doubt you’re going to find much fault with the action figure in this regard. The paint job is very nice. We have never been crazy about the “white dot” that adorns all of the figures in The Power Of The Force “2” era in the center of the figures’ eyes, but it’s not terribly distracting here.

There are multiple variations of Princess Leia Organa (As Jabba’s Prisoner) with regards to the action figure, but more so for the packaging. As far as the action figure is concerned, Princess Leia Organa (As Jabba’s Prisoner)’s has been found with two different color schemes. One has the metal parts of her bikini colored in a darker bronze color. (Her skin color also appears more orangey with this version.) Then Hasbro updated the figure and lightened her skin tone a few shades and colored the metal in a light bronze color, in a very bright fashion. We’re not sure which version is more rare than the other, but both do exist plentifully. More variations exist in the packaging, and because we could care less about .00 or .01, we just can’t even expend the energy to itemize all of those variants. We will however describe the most important one. While first released on a “green” card back (with or without a foil sticker), Princess Leia Organa (As Jabba’s Prisoner) was carried forward into the “freeze frame” phase of the line when that became the pack-in figure. Hasbro updated the card back to these figures to include a short bio in place of the characters’ statistics. A great figure for 1997, it will likely be popular for years to come.
