A chained Chewbacca is brought to Jabba the Hutt by Princess Leia, disguised as the bounty hunter Boushh.

As if the debacle of 1997’s The Power Of The Force “2” [Red/Green] Chewbacca Collector Series figure wasn’t enough, Kenner/Hasbro felt it was acceptable enough to reissue a year later, slightly tweaked, to help pad the “Return Of The Jedi” set of figures making up the third wave of the Action Collection line. Aside from a slightly different arrangement of colors, the new feature here is the collar and chain that hangs from Chewbacca’s neck. Designated as Chewbacca (In Chains), this iteration of Chewbacca is supposed to represent the moments from Episode VI when he is carted in Jabba’s Palace by bounty hunter Boushh, who we soon find out is Princess Leia Organa in disguise. This is a gimmicky figure at best. Hasbro should have tooled a solid plastic version of Chewbacca, much like the vintage Kenner Large Size Action Figures line, to get rid of the wonkiness caused by plush fur on a wire frame. And sadly, that’s all Chewbacca is. The figure is paper-thin from the side view, the fur is unkempt and wild, and the likeness to our beloved Wookiee is not close to representing the character from the Original Trilogy. We’re disappointed to see Hasbro take advantage of collectors’ kindness by re-releasing this figure. It’s time to put it to bed and start from the ground up. We wish we would say something positive about this figure, but we’re lost for words.
