As Supreme Leader of the First Order, Kylo Ren wields more power than ever before. Nevertheless, Ren continues to search for secrets of the Force from the depths of the dark side.

It’s the final countdown. And it’s also the final showdown! Are you sick of Kylo Ren action figures yet? It seems many collectors are, especially those who collect the 6” line. Rey battles against (and perhaps alongside) Supreme Leader Kylo Ren in the final installment of the Skywalker saga. So, like any other Star Wars collectibles line, Hasbro adds another version of the character to the lineup. Taking the place of Supreme Leader Snoke (after his unceremonious undoing in Episode VIII), Kylo Ren’s name gets upgraded to Supreme Leader Kylo Ren, and he gets a few tweaks to his relatively same outfit. Hasbro took previously existing Kylo Ren action figure parts, added some new tooling, and called it a day. And bam, we have a new Supreme Leader Kylo Ren 6” figure. In all honesty, Hasbro phoned this one in for collectors. It isn’t a great action figure. And it appears that perhaps some of the tooling is deteriorating. While the figure has mostly reused parts, there is some newness here as well. Surprisingly, thanks to the figure’s newness, you cannot immediately tell this is a figure that recycles most of its parts. But keep in mind, that if you have any previously released versions of Kylo Ren, then you mostly have Supreme Leader Kylo Ren already. If you do not, then this will be a treat for you.

Supreme Leader Kylo Ren comes with a good articulation system, a great likeness (with new cracked helmet), and accessories that are relatively standard for an average figure in The Black Series [Phase III] 6” line. But the new parts look a tad wonky on this figure. In particular, the new portrait doesn’t sit on the figure’s neck properly. It’s looks misaligned. It sits too far forward, and good tooling wasn’t employed here. This may be the result of aging tooling, however. Kylo Ren now has a cracked pattern on his helmet from smashing it in anger every five minutes. The adhesive holding the damaged parts together is colored in red paint, and it makes for an interesting pattern on the helmet, almost spiderweb-like in design. As we know, Kylo Ren has more temper tantrums than a toddler. He is incapable of taking care of his things, including protective gear like this helmet. What a spoiled brat. Han and Leia didn’t raise their son too well. There must be an important plot point that we don’t know about yet for this to necessitate an update to his helmet. We’ll have to wait until the film releases in December to learn what that is all about here. In the meantime, you should appreciate what Hasbro’s done to make this figure screen-specific to Episode IX. While previous Kylo Ren figures had come with soft-goods, this is not the case here. This figure's parts are fully molded in plastic.

Supreme Leader Kylo Ren also comes with a complex cloak with alternating hoods: one in the down position, and one in the up position that covers his helmet. The hood pieces snap-fit onto the shoulders of the cloak quite well, but the hood that goes over his helmet doesn’t have a perfect fit. It seems like it is a tad too big. There is some “space” around the curvature of the helmet. The separate hood pieces are designed nicely and look realistic, but they're not perfect. The cloak also looks alright without the hoods, but keep in mind you’ll have “plugs” standing up on his shoulders where the hoods attach to it. Supreme Leader Kylo Ren also comes with the previously mentioned molded cloak, and it hugs his frame closely. He also comes with a lightsaber fully lit as well as lightsaber hilt. Everything feels in place with Supreme Leader Kylo Ren, but we’re not feeling the action figure. We think too many shortcuts were made with him. There are many expectations for The Rise Of Skywalker, but getting characters with significantly updated outfits isn’t one of them. Supreme Leader Kylo Ren doesn’t look much different at all than previous versions, aside from aesthetic differences. Maybe that’s why we’re losing interest in this figure. It’s not exciting. Part of the first wave of The Black Series [Phase III] 6” figures for Triple Force Friday, Supreme Leader Kylo Ren is also available in a white First Edition box.
