Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn uses the Force against invading Trade Federation battle droids in the Naboo capital of Theed.

Hasbro took the Episode I Action Collection figures line to the next level. Something about the line made them stand out above and beyond what Hasbro accomplished with the 12 Inch Figures added to The Power Of The Force “2” era. Whether the style of characters allowed for a more realistic approach or they buckled down to ensure quality was the focus, characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn showed collectors how far Hasbro was willing to take the line. And in our opinion, they took it significantly further. One of the details you’ll notice immediately is the inclusion of rooted hair, especially for male characters. Obi-Wan Kenobi came with a little bit, but Hasbro approached Qui-Gon Jinn in a much more dramatic way. Every strand of hair is made from corn silk and rooted into the crown of his head. And the final results are beautiful. The mix of colors they included for Qui-Gon Jinn gives the hair a realistic appearance, and they managed it not to look flyaway and have a natural-looking flow and drape. Because of Qui-Gon Jinn’s beautiful hairstyle, he’s quickly become one of our favorites in the Episode I Action Collection line to date.

Qui-Gon Jinn turned out extremely well beyond his hairstyle of course, but let’s point out one flaw the figure has still. Liam Neeson is a tall man. But the Qui-Gon Jinn Action Collection figure is the same height as the Obi-Wan Kenobi Action Collection figure. The lack of disparity between them is a problem because Qui-Gon Jinn towers over Obi-Wan Kenobi in the film. We understand why Hasbro didn’t make the figure taller. They are working within the parts they have, and tooling an all-new buck to create an accurate Qui-Gon Jinn figure was outside of the tooling budget. However, if you can look beyond the scale issues of Qui-Gon Jinn, you’ll find that Hasbro produced a beautiful collectible toy here for collectors regardless. Qui-Gon Jinn comes with a stunning head sculpt and a beautiful costume. The layered outfit includes an outer robe, a shirt, pants, belt, and left and right boot. Hasbro tailored the clothing for a close fit, and no bagginess exists, which is nice to see on a figure of this scale. Hasbro added elastic in the outer robe for a natural pleated drape. It looks “bunched up” at times, but overall it turned out well and created a screen-authentic version of the on-screen character.

We’d like to focus on Qui-Gon Jinn’s portrait a little bit more. It shouldn’t be underestimated how incredible the likeness is to actor Liam Neeson. Hasbro knocked the likes out of the park, and we’re quite dumbfounded with how much it looks like the onscreen character. From the nose to the forehead, Lima Neeson’s physical traits are stunningly replicated on this Action Collection figure. We’re very impressed that they managed to recreate the character so effortlessly in this scale. Then when you add the rooted hair, it only makes the likeness that much more realistic for us. Collectors of all types should appreciate what Hasbro accomplished with the Qui-Gon Jinn Action Collection figure. For accessories, Qui-Gon Jinn is lightly accessorized. He comes with a lightsaber hilt and a green lightsaber blade. The lightsaber hilt has a clip where you can attach it to his belt, but it is a screen-inaccurate approach made here and we wish Hasbro made it more accurate to the film. He doesn’t come with a lot of articulation, but he can hold various poses with the articulation system he possesses. But a figure with more articulation would have been ideal here. Qui-Gon Jinn turned out great despite its issues, and it’s a highlight of the Episode I line.
