Obi-Wan Kenobi battles deadly starfighters while on a mission to rescue Chancellor Palpatine, who has been kidnapped by Separatist forces. As he heads for the vessel on which the Chancellor is being held, buzz droids attach themselves to his starfighter to destroy it.

After a record year with the Revenge Of The Sith line, Hasbro began repackaging some of the most popular vehicles from Episode III and added them into The Saga Collection toy line, which Hasbro designed with collectors in mind. With just a little inadvertent tweaking here and there, Hasbro re-released key vehicles like Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi Starfighter and Anakin Skywalker’s Jedi Starfighter into The Saga Collection so that the momentum created by the Revenge Of The Sith line could continue. With color-coded organization and a heavy focus on toys from Episode III, The Saga Collection Is the first line to house products from all film in the Prequel Trilogy and the Original Trilogy. The vehicles in the Mid-Size assortment are looking good, and there are a wealth of exclusive releases also coming into the line as well. Hasbro needs to repackage vehicles that possess previously existing tooling to help keep costs down which allows new products to keep coming in the line. Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter was a great vehicle in 2005. And it’s a great vehicle now. While it doesn’t necessarily bring newness to the midsize vehicle assortment, we think its entrance in The Saga Collection is wise.

Sourced from Revenge Of The Sith, Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter is the picture perfect example of what makes up a fantastic Mid-Size vehicle. Because Obi-Wan Kenobi is a mainstay in any basic figure line, Hasbro remains consistent with the vehicles he pilots and makes them readily available from line look to line look. Although Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starfighter has little in the way of deco differences, it holds up well a year after its original release in the Revenge Of The Sith line. Coming with the same play features, decal sheet and paint operations, Hasbro intended for this release of Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter to introduce new fans to the toy line, as well as give longtime collectors another stab at it. The new The Saga Collection packaging is beautiful, and that should be enough to tempt longtime collectors to reconsider another purchase. The graphics team or the department that develops the packaging art at Hasbro deserves accolades for the awe-inspiring effort put forth in these vehicles’ packaging. It’s a completely modern take at Star Wars packaging, but remains collector-friendly despite the strongly modern flavor it offers. You’ll find subdued hints of the vintage Kenner line look, but with a new and fresh framework at the front and center of everything.

Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter is a win for those who have been collecting for years, as well as those who are new to the hobby. With features including an opening canopy, firing blaster cannons, wings that spring open, and retractable landing gear, Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starfighter is the perfect vehicle to add to your collection that focuses on toys from Revenge Of The Sith. But if you’re not really into what this vehicle offers, we understand that as well. We’re still waiting for Hasbro revise some of the features on Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi Starfighter ourselves, especially the droid socket. Why can’t they figure out a way for the vehicle to accommodate a real astromech droid action figure in the droid socket? When you look at a figure like 2005’s ROTS R4-P17 (III 64), it interacts wonderfully with the vehicle. Imagine if Hasbro designed the vehicle in a way where you could place the R4-P17 action figure in the droid socket instead of the astromech droid “plug” they include instead. Sure, the action figure doesn’t sit in the droid socket all that well, but at least the astromech “plug” that comes with the vehicle is removable and can be placed on the side while you utilize R4-P17 instead. Overall, Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter still has merit and is worthy of another re-release in the Hasbro toy line. If you have it already, however, then this version can be passed over with no regrets.
