Imperial Dignitary

Detailed Visual Analysis

Imperial Dignitary

General Analysis

One of the evil men who is close to The Emperor and serves as an advisor in his plans to destroy the REBEL forces.

If you look back at the vintage Kenner line as a whole, you’ll be amazed by what they accomplished in the line. Not only did they release an inordinate amount of action figures in eight years, but they also chose characters that perfectly balanced what we wanted, what they knew we needed, and random background accents like Imperial Dignitary to help flourish the line in ways no other toy line before it could accomplish. Imperial Dignitary (whose proper name is Sim Aloo by the way) entered THE POWER OF THE FORCE line rather unwittingly. Many young collectors thought he might be a woman with the purple gown and androgynous facial structure (with makeup). But I fell in love with the character rather quickly. When I read the back of the coin that came with him, I quickly realized his importance and how he was relevant to The Emperor. That gave him a level of coolness; not even a bounty hunter could achieve for me. The figure itself isn’t terrible. But some of his deco is odd, especially his green eyes. As an adult collector searching for vintage Kenner figures in the aftermarket, I was stunned to see so many loose samples of the Imperial Dignitary with chipped noses. I’ve taken great care of my own figures to ensure the same thing doesn’t happen to them. Hasbro produced two modern Imperial Dignitary action figures in the STAR WARS “SAGA” [PHASE III] line, but neither are modern replacements for Sim Aloo. Sim Aloo made it far in the Hasbro Fans’ Choice Poll as a finalist but ultimately lost to Doctor Aphra. It gives me hope that Sim Aloo is finally on Hasbro’s radar for THE VINTAGE COLLECTION, but who knows if and when that will ever happen.

Hasbro's Most Definitive Modern Counterpart: There is no modern counterpart to this figure.
