A-Wing Pilot

Detailed Visual Analysis

A-Wing Pilot

General Analysis

Brave REBEL PILOT of the awesome A-WING FIGHTER. Took an active part in the successful attack on the new, more powerful DEATH STAR.

I remember getting very excited when I saw the A-Wing Pilot hanging from the pegs in 1985. What’s interesting about my excitement is that I didn’t have any idea Hasbro was working on a complementary A-Wing Fighter to interact with this brand new action figure. The figure has a slightly awkward sculpt. Many samples don’t stand flat with both feet on the ground, which causes a wobbly and leaning effect. But because this character is intended to fly vehicles and not much else, I don’t think I cared much as a kid if he could stand up or not. He came with a tiny black Endor blaster which is fitting for the character, but I lost mine rather quickly and had to use the one from the Imperial Gunner whenever I wanted the A-Wing Pilot to hold a blaster pistol. As I grew older as a Star Wars collector, I lost interest in this character quite a bit. He still felt necessary to my collection, but I think it gets boring rather quickly when an action figure is left in some cockpit for most of its life without interacting with the other action figures in the line. I loved the green jumpsuit her wears. When posed with the B-Wing Pilot it encapsulates the diversity in flight gear we saw in the HOME ONE scene during the briefing, and contrasts with the other colors nicely. After THE POWER OF THE FORCE A-Wing Pilot release, he was quickly repackaged in the DROIDS line with no changes, save for the inclusion of a gold coin instead of a silver one. Today, I appreciate Kenner for making him, but I still don’t have that same excitement I had as an 11-year-old that exceptional day in 1985.
