Detailed Visual Analysis

Princess Leia Organa (In Combat Poncho)

General Analysis

After a massive first wave of RETURN OF THE JEDI action figures in 1983, young kids started to figure out rather quickly who was still missing from the action figure line. Many of the main characters wearing outfits in which they appeared for most of the film had yet to be incorporated into the line. One of the most visible missing figures was Princess Leia Organa (In Combat Poncho). Thankfully, Kenner was already working on her figure when we began wondering where she was. If you think about it, Princess Leia Organa (In Combat Poncho) is a complex and layered outfit for her. It incorporates nearly three different, styles, and Kenner did a fantastic job of working all of the various stages of it with relative simplicity in this excellent action figure. Underneath is her “Rebel briefing” outfit as seen on the Home One Mon Calamari cruiser. Then you can add her combat poncho and belt to recreate her look on Shuttle Tydirium as she and her team headed to Endor. And then the figure also comes with a removable helmet and Endor blaster so you can recreate her interactions with Ewoks and Biker Scouts. Kenner went all out making Princess Leia Organa (In Combat Poncho), and the sculpt and features of the figure show this to be true. Nicely scaled and possessing one of the most magnificent likenesses of Carrie Fisher up to that time, Princess Leia Organa (In Combat Poncho) showed how far Kenner had coming making action figures for kids growing up at that time. I loved placing her on a Speeder Bike and having Biker Scouts hoot her out of the sky. I also liked adding Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight Outfit) as a passenger even when there was hardly any room for him. These were great times, and I so glad I grew up during this period to experience the Kenner Star Wars line in real time.
