Through the creative vision of Lucasfilm Ltd., the Clone Wars are brought to life in an exciting theatrical release. A unique animation style captures the drama of this epic period in galactic history along with its outstanding heroes and adversaries. Noble Jedi warriors lead clone troopers into combat against the Separatist forces and their battle droid army. Anakin, Obi-Wan and their comrades struggle against the rising power of the dark side and confront personal challenges against a backdrop of war-torn planets.

Each time there is a DVD release of the latest Star Wars Entertainment, Hasbro releases a Commemorative DVD Collection multipack in support of it. Sometimes they release multiple sets, and this is the case for the General Grievous/Obi-Wan Kenobi/Battle Droid Commemorative DVD Collection set. It is one of two sets created to support the release of The Clone Wars film release on DVD. Both sets are not necessarily noteworthy in any way. Hasbro decided once again that straight repacks are the best option for this long line of Walmart exclusives. So if you own the basic figure released of the three figures inside of the three-pack, there is technically no reason to purchase the Commemorative DVD Collection sets too, unless of course, you’re into the exclusive packaging of them. You will also pay a lower cost-per-figure if you decide to go with this multipack option. Or, if you’re looking to army build Clone Troopers and Battle Droids, this is another great way to do so. Let’s take a closer look at the figures that make up the General Grievous/Obi-Wan Kenobi/Battle Droid Commemorative DVD Collection. It’s another mediocre release in the line, but it isn’t without merit.

Hasbro did a fantastic job on The Clone Wars version of General Grievous, but it isn't definitive yet. We should be upfront about the limited articulation of this figure. He only has a paltry amount of articulation, and he is in desperate need of ankle joints to maximize his standing ability. He doesn't have the positioning ability or play value you may expect, but we would like to remind you that this doesn't make him an inferior action figure. He has to be considered for his sculpt first and everything else second because this is where a figure like this officially impresses. Hasbro sculpted General Grievous very delicately, and aside from suffering a bit from a pea-sized head, he is nearly free from flaws. He is skinny in spots (a true testament to his design), and thankfully Hasbro has used a little bit more of a stiffer plastic that aids him in holding his shape rather well. General Grievous comes with an ample amount of accessories, all of which are carried over from the basic figure release. And it’s great to see them all here once again. We would recommend to Hasbro to retool this figure a little bit to add a few more bells and whistles. A soft-goods cape would be marvelous for example. That would add a lot to General Grievous.

Obi-Wan Kenobi comes with partial clone trooper armor. He comes with a removable backpack, and while this is a pretty cool accessory, if you don’t leave it attached to him, he has a big old hole in his back. Removable helmets are a plain joy for some figures that require it, but when the helmets become too big and bulky, we think the method of an interchangeable portrait is a much better option. Obi-Wan Kenobi is not super-articulated, but he works fine as is. He has a bit of a wide stance, and this helps keep him standing very well. The plastic-molded robes, however, do inhibit his hip movement a bit. On top of his backpack, projectile, and an interchangeable head, he also comes with his signature lightsaber. The Battle Droid is a boring addition here, but also a necessary one. Equipped with eight points of articulation, the Battle Droid needs knee joints. It has a nice swivel waist joint which does more for it than you may realize. Thankfully, his legs have been pre-posed in a very straightforward manner, and this allows the collector to pose the droid without any issue. The Battle Droid has a removable backpack, and the fine design includes lands and grooves and a great texture. This multipack is a decent set, but it’s not a necessary one.
