These brave Jedi Knights fight to restore order to the Republic during a turbulent time of war. As the Clone Wars rage on, Anakin Skywalker becomes seduced by the dark side and betrays his fellow Jedi and all that he once held dear. Obi-Wan Kenobi must now battle his former Padawan, who has become the Jedi’s most formidable threat.
The Revenge Of The Sith Commemorative DVD Collection sets are a hodgepodge of inferior figures. Granted, these multipacks retail for only a mere $9.99 each, but in our opinion Hasbro picked some of the worst figures of their entire career to populate these sets. The Anakin Skywalker, Mace Windu And Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Knights) set is a bit of a misnomer because the whole point of the main character of Episode III is that he turns to evil, making him anything but a Jedi Knight. Hasbro created this line of multipacks to support the release of Revenge Of The Sith on DVD. We suppose they do this admirably, but hardcore collectors will likely find the three-packs in this Walmart exclusive line a bit of a nuisance as they don’t add anything meaningful to collections save for their exclusive packaging. Hasbro did select a motley crew of various action figures to compile this set. But again, unless you’re into bridges, this set in particular doesn’t bring anything interesting or refreshing into the Revenge Of The Sith line. And from a certain perspective that is extremely disappointing. Let’s look at the Anakin Skywalker, Mace Windu And Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Knights) Commemorative DVD Collection a little more carefully.
Anakin Skywalker is from the 2005 ROTS Dooku Vs Anakin Battle Arena set. This figure is simple in approach and has its lightsaber permanently affixed to his right hand. Hasbro did a fairly decent job of capturing a screen-accurate likeness of Anakin Skywalker, along with decent paint operations, but there are better iterations of this character elsewhere in the Revenge Of The Sith line. Collectors don’t like having little to no options with their action figures. Anakin’s left arm is up in the air with a fist-pumping motion. It looks as if he’s at a pep rally instead of battling whatever evil Sith Lord comes his way. The figure needs to be retired at this point. The oldest figure in this set is Mace Windu, however. And although he is the oldest of the three featured here, he may be the nicest of all. That should give you some indication of how bad this set it. A figure from 1998 supersedes the other two figures from 2005. Mace Windu comes without his molded plastic cloak this time, and Hasbro gave him a new lightsaber to be more authentic to what we see in the film. But just like Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Hasbro should have picked a better version of Mace Windu for this set. The Star Wars “Saga” line offered great options, for example.
Mace Windu (Episode I Sneak Preview) still comes with six points of articulation. The likeness is admirable, although we think a little further tweaking would have wholly nailed the likeness. The figure appears too short as Samuel L. Jackson is a tall gentleman. Perhaps another quarter of an inch would have done wonders for this figure’s stature. The final figure in this set may be the best of the three. Obi-Wan Kenobi is taken from 2005’s ROTS Mustafar Final Duel Playset. It’s not a perfect figure by any means, but certainly better than both Anakin Skywalker and Mace Windu. The figure has a very concerned expression of its face, almost as if he is losing the battle. The figure’s posture also reinforces this. Despite being a better figure in this set, the paint operations are lackluster at best. It may be difficult for you to see the merit of this figure because of its disappointing paint job. Obi-Wan Kenobi comes with six point of articulation, all swivel, and while not ideal they do provide adequate movement for this action figure. Hasbro appears to have success with Walmart’s exclusive line of Commemorative DVD Collection multipacks, but sadly for us it feels like they are scraping harder and harder at the bottom of that barrel.
