The shadowy commander of the First Order, Supreme Leader Snoke prefer to operate from a distance, looming over his underlings in the form of an immense hologram. As the First Order rallies, this master of the dark side emerges from the shadows to seize victory.

Supreme Leader Snoke is the Sequel Trilogy’s answer to Emperor Palpatine. But he comes off looking a whole lot more like the late Hugh Hefner. Yeah, we know it’s all about the Sequel Trilogy right now, but wouldn’t it be a breath of fresh air to get the same treatment for a character based on the Original Trilogy as we did for a character like Supreme Leader Snoke? There are many questions about the character. Why is Kylo Ren loyal to him? Why does the First Order bow to him? Why is history repeating itself 30 years later in the Star Wars timeline? All of these questions and more seem unanswerable at the moment. But from a toy perspective, we can confirm that Hasbro is making faithful interpretations of him for the 6” line and those eager to see Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. We don’t understand the need for a single-boxed version of Supreme Leader Snoke. A stunning version of this figure was released as 2017’s TBS [P3] Supreme Leader Snoke (Throne Room) and it interconnects with the Walmart exclusive 2017 TBS [P3] Kylo Ren (Throne Room) set beautifully. There is no need for a version of this figure when it comes without the important environmental pieces. Snoke himself has been given some incredible attention in both sculpt, deco and smart use of premium soft-goods. This figure delivers a nice product from this perspective, but there aren’t any accessories here aside from his removable belt.

Hasbro has been notorious lately for releasing a “deluxe” version of many figures first and then releasing a simple basic version after. It’s their way of double-dipping and making the most out of their sculpts and saving costs. Supreme Leader Snoke is a decent looking action figure regardless. He comes with the standard 28 points of articulation that allow him to freely sit on his throne unencumbered and look good doing so. His wrists are ball-jointed, and this is very important for how you can pose them resting on the arms of his throne. It looks extremely realistic, and he truly appears that he is relaxed and commanding from afar. He comes with an ornate soft-goods robe, but it isn’t fully removable. The robe sections around the shoulders are instead glued into place. You can still open up to reveal a strange white outfit underneath of it, but ultimately it really cannot be considered a separate accessory because of its inability to be fully removed. His long-hanging belt, however, is removable and it too has been beautifully sculpted. It has some flexibility and doesn’t interrupt his sitting poses which is great in our opinion. Supreme Leader Snoke comes with a stunning portrait. And the paint operations are splendid as well. The coloring chosen to show his wounds is odd, however. The deco on his face looks as if he has port-wine stains or other types of vascular malformations on his face. But if you look at any still of the character that Disney has approved for release so far, it doesn’t appear as if they are this pronounced (or event present) on his face.

His golden slippers are a riot, and it’s hard to take a character wearing them seriously. They look like Dorothy’s slippers from The Wizard Of Oz in a different color (and even Dorothy's slippers were originally silver in the books, so we’re not too far away from that with Snoke’s gold shoes). Hasbro worked in every last detail they could here and 6” fans are likely going to be thrilled with the results. It is just that you get more for your money and a much more visually stunning version of this figure with the exclusive release. Admittedly, his “Throne Room” setup is pretty sweet. And it’s impressive. We’d be lying if we claimed we’re not a bit envious that we don’t have something similar from the Original Trilogy yet. But those who are eager for The Last Jedi, well, you should count your blessings because Hasbro doesn’t do things on this grand scale all that often for collectors. Sadly, Supreme Leader Snoke is in desperate need of environmental pieces to make his character more interesting. The basic The Black Series [Phase III] boxed release is great for those looking to save some cash, but you only get a very simply accessorized action figure for the price. Details about Supreme Leader Snoke have us curious. What’s up with that pointy ring? Are you really someone else in a different body? Do you own a men’s focused magazine? (We kid.) Time will tell if Snoke has staying power with Star Wars fans. But right now we’d be lying if we claimed we weren’t concerned at this point.
