Anakin Skywalker wears cold weather gear to protect him from Orto Plutonia's arctic climate. Anakin, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Captain Rex, with clone troopers and Pantoran dignitaries, investigate mysterious disappearances at the planet's Republic outpost.

Hasbro decided to knock out quite a few characters based on the Season 1 episode entitled Trespass from The Clone Wars all at once. Getting a whole bunch of figures based from this great episode has quickly populated our collections with a great variety of Star Wars characters (many of which are snow-themed). Some are cooler than others, but there is no denying that many of us are excited to get "cold weather" version of our favorites. The episode introduced a lot of familiar Star Wars characters in animated form and now Anakin Skywalker gets his turn. The final result looks great although his outfit is actually quite simple. Looking very similar to the cold weather Obi-Wan Kenobi (CW48) figure (but completely different sculpts), Anakin Skywalker borrows many elements of what Han Solo wore on the icy snow planet of Hoth in Episode V as well. The rather solid blue coat has a lot of detail in it, like ribbed texture and angular cuts. It looks "post modern" yet "classic" at the same time. The coat contrasts against his light gray pants very well and then both are accented with a brown utility belt and boots. The goggles and the lightsaber are the only accessories he comes with and we can't think of anything else that Hasbro could have added to the figure that would be appropriate.

Anakin Skywalker has 12 points of articulation. He doesn't have ankle joints and we can say that he doesn't really need them. What we do want to see Hasbro incorporate into their basic figures more frequently are ball-jointed hips. Figures would have much more ability to be posed in a much wider array of stances if this were the case. But Hasbro has cleverly incorporated other option in this Anakin Skywalker figure. For example, Anakin is wearing a three-quarter length parka. But his legs are still able to be articulated at the hips very well thanks to a two-part engineering design. One, the plastic used is very pliable and two, there are splits on both sides of the coat that go up to the waist and move freely when the legs are posed. And the coat looks natural even if you have put Anakin in a walking motion. Little details like this clearly spell out the high standards Hasbro has for the basic figure line. There is no denying that the focus for Hasbro right now is The Clone Wars line and as we get further into the TV show, Hasbro is fixated on really giving collectors and kids ultimate quality figures. It is happening, because The Clone Wars figures in 2010 are significantly better than The Clone Wars figures from 2008. The changed have been for the better and we are thankful for Hasbro's commitment to something, even if it isn't the movie-based figures for now.

Anakin has great articulation in the arms too. His left hand has a closed grip that holds his lightsaber perfectly and his right hand is open, almost in a Force-push mode and every finger is outstretched. The detail on the glove-covered fingers is astounding and it is amazing how far Hasbro has come to include extremely fine details like this in their action figures. Anakin's goggles are removable and his head can pop off to remove his parka hood. (Anakin's hood has been designed in a collapsed state while Obi-Wan's is in an "up" position.) We are not sure the need for a removable collapsed hood, but Hasbro decided to include it with this figure. As mentioned earlier, this figure is very reminiscent of Han Solo (Hoth Outfit) action figure. It is obvious that the reference was intentional, but there are also a ton of differences which make it just as unique. For example, the Jedi symbol is emblazoned right above his left breast pocket on his coat. Another difference is his head coverings, but interestingly, it is also reminiscent of what is seen on the (Twin Pod) Cloud Car Pilot action figure. We sense someone at the Filoni factory is an Episode V fan indeed. But similarities and comparisons aside, Anakin Skywalker should be a figure that will be worth your while to find for your collections.
