The Force Awakens Poe Dameron basic figure was one of the worst atrocities of our collecting lifetime. If the 5POA wasn’t bad enough, Hasbro opted to sculpted permanent goggles and painted them in an opaque yellow which quickly got dubbed as a “banana visor” by collectors. Hasbro still hasn’t lived down this moniker. Thankfully, Hasbro thought twice about how they approached the Star Wars [The Last Jedi] Force Link figure, and while it’s not exactly perfect, major strides have been taken to make it probably as good as we’re ever going to see in this simply articulated 5POA format. With a slightly revised name too, Poe Dameron (Resistance Pilot) brings to the table a removable helmet (with clear visor thank goodness) and a blaster pistol. Both accessories are nicely detailed and enhance Poe Dameron (Resistance Pilot) very nicely. These accessories are expected and not out of the ordinary. But it is nice to get more than one simple accessory with a Star Wars figure. Anything greater than one makes us very happy collectors.

Poe Dameron (Resistance Pilot) also comes with some extra articulation. Instead of the standard 5POA format, Hasbro has added two extra points including swivel gloves which are a nice feature but doesn’t do anything special in particular to help this figure move any better. It would have been nice if Poe Dameron (Resistance Pilot) came with hinge-jointed or ball-jointed knees. As a pilot, this would have been a tremendous enhancement to this figure. Although technically an all-new figure since Hasbro had to add a chip into the body so that it can interact with the Force Link feature, it’s obvious that Hasbro has heavily relied on the sculpting of 2015’s TFA Poe Dameron Build A Weapon figure. The textures of the two figures are notably different, but the sculpt are very similar to one another. It’s evident that Hasbro used the same digital files to produce the Star Wars [The Last Jedi] version. Painted similarly yet uniquely to The Force Awakens figure, Poe Dameron (Resistance Pilot) is a nice enhancement to the 5POA line.

The head sculpt of Poe Dameron (Resistance Pilot) is actually very nice. But sadly it doesn’t look too much like Poe Dameron. Previous The Force Awakens head sculpts of Poe Dameron have been more screen accurate, so we’re not so sure what happened here. Again, the figure has a great head sculpt, but it just doesn’t look all that much like the character. For us, the best part of the new Poe Dameron (Resistance Pilot) figure is his removable helmet. Not only does it fit like a glove on his head, but it has been beautifully decorated and accents the figure perfectly. You see the Rebel Alliance/Resistance insignia on it, and the red striped lines have been carefully and evenly applied. This little accessory has a ton of detail, and we know it’s going to impress collectors, even if they’re not really into this format. And as a bonus, it comes with a “see through” visor which makes all the wrong of the “banana visor” now right again. Like all figures in the Star Wars [The Last Jedi] line, Poe Dameron (Resistance Pilot) interacts with the Force Link wristband and allows him to talk. It’s definitely a cool feature. Poe Dameron (Resistance Pilot) is a nice update to past versions for sure.
