A Rebel to the core, she takes matters into her own hands to protect others!

The Forces Of Destiny has a first wave of figures, but they’re split across three different formats. It can be confusing at times, but the goal is to provide certain characters from the series with objects or things that they utilize with the animated shorts. Hence, Hasbro has felt the need to divide the line into three conceptual approaches to ensure each character is portrayed accurately from the series. Jyn Erso falls under the “Basic Figure” category. In short, she doesn’t come with “anything else” other than her direct weapons and standard outfit. This simpler approach works well with her, but we have to admit that we would have loved to see her paired with the “cat” she rescued in her Forces Of Destiny story as it would have been a unique take on this character we relatively know very little about at the moment. Forces Of Destiny’s delivery has honestly exceeded our expectations. The figures in this line meet all the definitions of a young girl’s age group: rooted hair, interchangeable clothing, cutesy “animal” accessories and mixed media to give the dolls a life of their own for little girls to create their own adventures. Hasbro’s use of soft-goods clothing as well as molded plastic parts are seamless and create the perfect toy/collectible for what we’re sure will appeal in some way to Star Wars fans from both genders and all ages. Forces Of Destiny captures the best of both worlds of toys and collectibles and hopefully will only get stronger with the corresponding media event that supports it. Eleven inches in scale and full of articulation and fine workmanship, Forces Of Destiny gives us hope that young female Star Wars fans may have a new interest with collecting. It’s definitely here in Forces Of Destiny.

As mentioned earlier, there are three collections within the Forces Of Destiny line. There is the Basic Figure line which retails for $19.99. There is also the Figure & Friends line which pairs a Star Wars character with a “pet” of some sort (another smaller Star Wars character or droid) and these retail for $24.99. Finally, there is a deluxe line called Adventure Figures which are pretty much the same as the Figure & Friends releases but have some other deluxe feature like another outfit and perhaps a larger accessory (it will contain something premium) for a more elevated $34.99 price point. We let you know that Jyn Erso falls under the Basic Figure assortment and she fits well into it. Young fans will be able to recreate her adventures from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as well as her new adventures seen in Forces Of Destiny. All Forces Of Destiny figures comes with 20 points of articulation. There is premium articulation in the upper body mostly. But you will find other places with ball-jointed articulation like the knees for example. All dolls tend to look like one another, as they all have the caricatured shapes and features that are common with all of them in the animated shorts. Jyn Erso is really no exception. At the same time, they all possess uniqueness between each other, even beyond their outfits and accessories. You can tell this is supposed to be Jyn. If you “strip” the doll down completely, the dolls remain completely clothed and you will see that the boots, vest, belt, lower skirt and arm sleeves are all removable. Some are soft plastic while others are soft-goods. Jyn Erso comes with some neat accessories like a soft-goods bonnet, a soft-goods vest, a baton and a blaster pistol. Hasbro did a great job of translating her into an animated style.

Whether fully assembled or minimally accessorized, the Forces Of Destiny Jyn Erso figure looks fantastic. Hasbro really went above and beyond with this line. Maybe this isn’t the latest thing, but fine details, like “spraying” the rooted hair to keep the style in place is just one of the things we like to see in these types of dolls. Maybe the colorfully detailer wide-eyed expressions can be a bit overwhelming, but keep in mind that Hasbro is trying to appeal to a certain market while they have a multimedia event to support their product line. And again just to reiterate, we absolutely love the mix of molded plastic costuming paired with removable soft-goods. It works better than we had ever anticipated it would. Jyn Erso should be destined to become a hit with a new younger female audience. The outfits are sewn with precision and are fitted, and the accessories interact with the figures beautifully, with truly seamless interaction. Because of this we believe Hasbro has approached this line with great forethought and care. The paint operations only seal the deal here as they look marvelous and have no overspray or errors. If we had one complaint about the first wave of figures, it’s the character selection. Now, we also understand that Hasbro is also working as closely as possible to the confines of the animated series. This makes it clear why certain figures are going to be made before others. We just think it’s a tad risky to see another Jyn Erso, (or even a Rey) open up the line. People will differ on this opinion and that’s fine, but we just wish for success with this line. Carry-forwards could be the health or death of this line as well. Let’s pray Hasbro chooses wisely.

Jedi Temple Archives graciously thanks Hasbro and Litzy Public Relations for providing us with this Forces Of Destiny sample for entry into our Research Droids Reviews and Visual Guides.
