The Jedi and clone troopers are outnumbered, but they must win this battle to stop the creation of more battle droids.
Sigh. The Clone Wars DVD Sets really had so much potential, but Hasbro decided that straight repacks would work best for these Walmart exclusives sets. Instead of repainted a Clone Trooper or just adding an all-new character, Hasbro went the simplest way possible and re-release figures we have seen about a hundred times before in the line, add a single episode DVD and call it a day. As a result, The Clone Wars DVD Sets exclusive program was doomed to fail; and that’s exactly what it did. In fact, by the time we started seeing all new characters in this exclusive format, the line was well beyond any salvaging and the new sets had to be sold to discount chains instead. It was a disappointing time because Hasbro really could have made The Clone Wars DVD Sets line a huge hit. The graphics and packaging were beautiful. It was the toy content that made everyone scratch his or her head. Take for instance the Landing At Point Rain (Obi-Wan Kenobi And Battle Droid) (1 of 2) to-pack. Hasbro thought it best to repack two figures from the 2008 The Clone Wars [Blue] line, make them specific to the Landing At Point Rain episode, and expect everyone to buy it without a second glance.
Instead, the Landing At Point Rain (Obi-Wan Kenobi And Battle Droid) (1 of 2) The Clone Wars DVD set and its counterpart, the Weapons Factory (Anakin Skywalker And Super Battle Droid) (2 of 2) The Clone Wars DVD set begun multiplying on store shelves and began to rot. Walmart got sadly screwed and it was clear that this exclusive line was about to die. The set itself isn’t terrible, but it’s incredibly boring. Obi-Wan Kenobi is a slight repaint of 2008’s TCW [B] Obi-Wan Kenobi (No. 2) figure. He comes with the same old gear but with a slightly different paint job this time around. The figure has held up well the last couple of years, but it’s in need of revised articulation. With so many sculpts made of Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’d think that Hasbro would have pulled one with more articulation or just better features. More of a display figure than an action figure, Obi-Wan Kenobi will likely frustrate collectors of all ages because of his limited articulation. If you’re into bells and whistles like extra accessories, then perhaps you’ll be able to better forgive what the actual action figure lacks. Still, it's starting to age.
We have to tell you that we’re more sick of the Battle Droid figure. It’s just not a great figure and Hasbro is intent of re-releasing it more time than we can count now. It’s high time for a Battle Droid with a great deal more articulation and the ability to stow the droid blaster on its backpack. It isn’t looking good that this will ever come to pass however. So, we’re stuck with this old sculpt until they ever decide to update it. Both Obi-Wan Kenobi and Battle Droid come with their original accessories, and their paint operations are similar to their 2008 releases, but definitely different. The bonus here is the included DVD which features the Landing At Point Rain episode from Season 2. The DVD itself is gorgeous and features the main characters from the episode. Also included are Galactic Battle Game cards, stands and play die. These are collectible in and of themselves and fans of the line have been enjoying gathering them all up. The Landing At Point Rain (Obi-Wan Kenobi And Battle Droid) (1 of 2) The Clone Wars DVD Set definitely had some potential. But admittedly we have to say Hasbro failed us with this one. There just isn’t enough newness here to sustain the line.
