Sergeant Jyn Erson (Eadu): A highly skilled soldier in the Rebel Alliance, Sergeant Jyn Erso is an impetuous, defiant warrior eager to bring the battle to the Empire. Jyn has little patience for debate within Alliance High Command, enough so that she takes matters into her own hands.

Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu): An accomplished Alliance Intelligence officer with combat field experience, Captain Cassian Andor commands respect from his Rebel troops with his ability to keep a cool head under fire and complete his missions with minimal resources.

K-2SO: A reprogrammed Imperial security droid now loyal to the Alliance, K-2SO is an alarming sight standing within a secret Rebel base. The pragmatic droid is an effective insertion agent, as he can blend in perfectly at Imperial installations and outposts.

Rogue One basic figure are already piling up and Hasbro thought it would be best to release a Walmart “exclusive” set of three of the basic figures in new packaging. Yes, this release is absolutely pointless, and it’s bound to accumulate dust as it will sit inevitably forever at your local Walmart store. The set contains Sergeant Jyn Erso (Eadu), Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) and K-2SO Rogue One basic figures. So you have them all already. But if you want them packaged together in an exclusive three-pack (where the carboard packaging is the only exclusive part of it), then you can plop down $20+ after tax if you so choose. Let’s run through the rehashed figures here. First up is a crappy version of SergeantJyn Erso (Eadu). She suffers from weak paint operations. There is an aesthetic issue with Sergeant Jyn Erso (Eadu)’s posture too. But the figure just looks bad no matter how you slice it. She really only needed to be released one time. It was enough. Sergeant Jyn Erso (Eadu) comes with a blaster pistol and that’s pretty much it. You do get a functioning holster where it can be placed when not in use. It fits perfectly in there. An awkward lean and bad paint operations really make this action figure a pretty sad mess. It had potential but the final execution is problematic.

Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) comes with the “standard” five points of articulation that most other figures in this format have as well. This of course doesn’t give the figure a wide range of movement and while this is never a good thing is seems the collecting community is becoming more and more desensitized to it (oh the horror). It looks like Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) (as a character) should be able to move “a lot” but obviously this isn’t possible with this particular release. There are definitely some wonderful approaches taken with the figure, but then there are others leave us perplexed. For example, his parka is amazingly detailed. His belt line is loaded with “accessories” that can’t be removed and the paint operations here are quite nice. But then they didn’t give Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) a removable cap like they did with the 6” figure. What makes this more frustrating is that they actually tooled a separate piece to make the cap. So why not just work in a removable accessory? So this means that the 5POA version of Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) will always have his cap on and the reference images online show him not wearing it mostly (so far). It’s definitely a disappointment. He comes with a blaster pistol and it fits in a working holster on his belt.

Rogue One’s basic K-2SO may be the figure that redeems the 5POA format. You get the same figure here once again. This figure has us impressed, despite its many limitations. We bet that many might be willing to forgive (somewhat) the horrible misstep Hasbro has made with the basic figure line if more figures looked like this one. Instead of one plane swivel articulation, Hasbro has worked in glorious ball-socket articulation to K-2SO. Aesthetically, this is how this character functions (based on what we have seen on the 6” figure), but it’s a gift to get it on the 3.75” as well. Sure, the range of motion the articulation offers is still significantly inhibited, but you get a whole heck of a lot more thanks to the 360 degree-ish movement that ball-socket articulation offers. K-2SO of course needs elbow and knee articulation and be sure to check out what the ball-socket hips and shoulders offer as well. K-2SO also has upgraded articulation in the head as well. He comes with a standard ball-socket head, but he also has been given a reverse ball-socket neck. This allows you to make the figure look down and around as well as turn his head. Oh, and the paint operations are very nice too. This set really serves no purpose. It’s an easy pass if you own the basic figures.
