Specialist Stormtroopers stationed at the top secret Imperial military headquarters on Scarif, Shoretroopers patrol the beaches and bunkers of the planetary facility.

It should be pretty clear at this point that we’re really perplexed at what Hasbro is doing for The Black Series [Phase III] 6” exclusive program. While some of the items released as store exclusives make sense, others choices do not. A basic (Original Trilogy) C-3PO is a Walgreens’ exclusive? How is that possible? And now the “army building” version of the Scarif Stormtrooper (not the Squad Leader) is a Walmart exclusives. Shouldn’t the Scarif Stormtrooper Squad Leader be the exclusive since you only need one of him technically? It may seem moot to contemplate Hasbro’s decisions, but things were never really like this in the past. For us, our opinion is strong that it shouldn’t be more difficult to build your army than find its leader. But the reverse is true instead. That being said, the Scarif Stormtrooper is pretty much everything we expected it to be. Based on 2016’s TBS [P3] Scarif Stormtrooper Squad Leader (28) figure, the more “generic” Scarif Stormtrooper is Walmart’s 2016 TBS6 exclusive release, and quite frankly it looks just as great as the main line release. With some different color flashing and some new tooling, the Scarif Stormtrooper hopefully will be easily attainable for the many 6” collectors that are out there now.

Hasbro has ensured to fill the line very early with some of the key troopers in the film. And since they made the Shoretroopers one of these groups of Imperials, we’re glad to see them extrapolating this branch so soon. Called Scarif Stormtrooper because of the planet where they serve the Galactic Empire, these colorful troopers have been well designed for The Black Series [Phase III] 6” line. Like any battalion, there are multiple differently ranking Scarif Stormtroopers and now that we have two of them, we hope even more are on the way. The Scarif Stormtrooper has amazingly sculpted armor. The detail etched into the figure is superiorly executed. But for us it is the beautiful paint operations that make this figure look beyond impressive and set it apart from its predecessors. Since exclusives are typically based on previously existing sculpts, it’s evident that Hasbro hasn’t deviated too far from the Scarif Stormtrooper Squad Leader tooling. In fact, all that is different here is the belt/skirt combination piece (and the new paint operations). Everything else is identical. Sadly, the new lower skirt inhibits hip movement even more than the Scarif Stormtrooper Squad Leader, so that disappoints us a bit.

The best part of the Scarif Stormtrooper is the upper body and arms. You get the most movement from these areas and the figure can hold the included blaster rifle with one or two hands remarkably well. And you can make the figure “run” all thanks to this great balance and functional articulation. We really need to once again focus on the paint operations given to the Scarif Stormtrooper. Hasbro has done an amazing job making this figure look as beautiful as it does. The Scarif Stormtrooper literally has equal excellence with the paint operations that the Squad Leader received. The Scarif Stormtrooper is truly the picture perfect example of what a collector-focused Star Wars action figure should look like in 2016. We’re even letting the issue of a single accessory go because this figure looks so tremendous. We still take issue with this figure’s availability. We hope Walmart bought a ton of them, but other than that this is a must-have figure. Hasbro is raising the bar with the troopers in this line. Hasbro seems to be really improving the line with the many quality issues it has had so far. We hope they keep up this trend. Walmart grabbed hold a fantastic exclusive here.
