A trained warrior desperate to escape his past, Finn is plunged into adventure as his conscience drives him down a heroic, but dangerous, path.

“Surprisingly” is definitely the wrong word to use here, but for us it seems to be the only word that fits at the moment. But surprisingly, Finn (Jakku) may end up being the best figure in the third Walmart exclusive wave of The Black Series [Phase III] 3.75” line. Poe Dameron comes with a significantly greater amount of bells and whistles, but the enhanced likeness to the new head sculpt, the functionality of the articulation, and the proportions created from the ball-jointed hips makes the 3.75” Finn (Jakku) figure a micro-sized dead ringer to the actor in The Force Awakens. Although lightly accessorized, the figure brings collectors an elevated version of the character in action figure form, and for longtime collectors this tremendous upgrade shouldn’t even be debated in your minds on whether to pick him up or not. With an impressive 27 points of articulation, this is the Finn (Jakku) figure that should have been made widely available as a basic figure for all to enjoy. And you can bet that he will sought after by lovers of super-articulation. The long wait to get new super-articulated figures based on The Force Awakens has been dreadful, but the wait has been rewarding.

Admittedly, there has been a great deal of “stress” for collectors with Hasbro recently. Super-articulated has become frilly in many ways. Five points of articulation is the new standard form of articulation. Hasbro may realize this, but apparently their profit margins means more (understandably so – we’re not really judging them for watching their bottom line). But there is a fine line between watching costs and being penny wise and pound foolish. With all of the budget products that have flooded the market, it seems that they would have preserved a generous portion of the budget for a well groomed and well rounded super-articulated basic figure line. Obviously we’re getting them, but with only three or four figures per each new wave, it’s going to be a long while before we have a healthy amount of super-articulated action figures based on The Force Awakens, we wonder how long it will take before it feels like Finn (Jakku) and others are part of a healthier line of Episode VII characters. We accept that some figures will suffice in simple five points of articulation, but characters like Finn (Jakku) should be available super-articulated across all formats.

Finn (Jakku) is pretty much everything you might expect him to be. In many ways just a scaled down version of 2015’s TBS [P3] Finn (Jakku) (01) figure, Finn (Jakku) comes with an impressive array of articulation. Some of the joints are a tad loose, but it really doesn’t inhibit the ability of how you can pose the action figure. His arms provide a wonderful amount of movement which is nice for wielding various weaponry. He comes with a Resistance blaster rifle and we have to admit that it has been decorated beautifully, even if the deco may not be 100% accurate. (Compared to the 6” version, one of them has to be colored wrongly because they’re so different from each other.) If we had to nitpick, we’d point out that his sleeves don’t match his jacket shell perfectly, something that Hasbro has been messing up somewhat the last couple of years. The last visible instance of this was with 2013’s TBS [P1] Luke Skywalker (#05) figure. Even despite this minor issue, there is just too much positive stuff happening with Finn (Jakku) to throw the baby out with the bathwater. This is a must-have figure for us. We’d encourage you to follow suit.
