The modern incarnation of a classic design, the Incom T-70 X-wing fighter is the signature combat craft of the Resistance forces in their fight against the First Order.

How do you repeat history in a few short months and make Star Wars collectors everywhere relive the pain and anguish all over again? Well, Hasbro has found a way to do it and it’s called the Resistance X-wing which is a Class III vehicle that is believed to be (and likely is) a Walmart exclusive. Just like everything else related to the biggest media event push in years, no one knows anything about what is coming, when or how. Things just appear on shelves anymore. What adds even more confusion to the Resistance X-wing is that right now it is coming without any Walmart stickers on it, identifying it as their exclusive. But then again, that really doesn’t mean anything either. For this release, Hasbro repainted 2015’s TFA Poe’s X-wing Fighter in a new blue and off-white paint scheme (something we assume will make more sense once the film is released) and a pretty nice, although far from perfect, newish Poe Dameron figure. With a completely unacceptable MSRP that just hangs cents below $50, the Resistance X-wing is likely a vehicle that most collectors are going to avoid like the plague until the Rollback starts on them. Most of our readers know our position on waiting for clearance prices, but in this instance we’ll gladly look the other way. This is easily a $25 vehicle (including the pack-in figure), so you can understand our disgust with the the suggested retail price. It’s offensive. There is no other way to describe it. If collectors refuse to buy it because the scale is off and the simplicity is beneath our expectations, how are kids and gift-giving adults going to be willing to plop down this kind of money for something that’s essentially garbage? Plus, a store exclusive is geared to collectors. Do they really think we’re going to be sucked into this vehicle?

If there is any other saving grace (besides the pretty cool Poe Dameron pack-in figure), Hasbro has included cannons for the S-foils that are cast in a sturdier plastic. They aren’t 100% perfectly straight, but they’re a whole lot better than the crap we received with the other $50 abomination. The vehicle looks clean in off-white and blue and frankly the color schemes of the Episode VII vehicles are certainly interesting and pleasing to the eye. You probably already know all too well the multiple problems with this vehicle. It’s too small. The included pack-in figure barely can fit into the cockpit, and you have to fight with it to get it deep enough into the tiny space to close the hatch all the way. (It is possible, but please know that he doesn’t look right once you’re able to finally make it work. Even this new figure doesn’t interact well with this vehicle.) The Resistance X-wing also once again comes with a laughable and removable rubber nose that can barely keep its shape on or off the vehicle. It’s a mockery we tell you. To date, we have never seen anything look so ridiculous on a Star Wars Hasbro vehicle in our lives. And here they do the same thing again. We are unable to comprehend the pointlessness, laziness, and lack of vision these new Star Wars vehicles possess. And we suppose that BB-8 is a permanent droid for Poe Dameron as he is once again the action feature to lock the S-foils in attack position. There are still no extra compartments or similar features to give the ship some personality, something that is desperately needed in a toy line that is so simply approached. The paint operations are also simple in many ways, but they’re applied neatly without overspray or sloppiness. With all of this vehicle’s issues, at least they can make it look half way decent when sitting on a shelf.

Perhaps the best part of the Resistance X-wing is the pack-in Poe Dameron action figure. But the same was true for the pack-in figure with 2015’s TFA Poe’s X-wing Fighter Class III vehicle. You know the 2015 TFA Poe Dameron (Build A Weapon) (Space) figure all too well unfortunately. Nicknamed “banana visor,” that figure came without a removable helmet and a solid yellow visor on a mostly badly painted action figure. Well, they sadly took this head sculpt, beveled out a wider hole to fit on the neck peg of 2015’s TFA Poe Dameron (Armor Up) (Space) figure – the one with the tan jacket – and repainted it to be what we suppose is scene specific for this vehicle release. While we’re disappointed with the head sculpt chosen here, we have to admit that the figure as a whole looks pretty nice. Yes, that banana visor is still there unfortunately, but between the new deco on the helmet (which is nicely applied by the way) paired with the new outfit, this is one nice version of Poe Dameron. It’s technically the 3.75” equivalent to the figure from 2015’s TBS [P3] Poe Dameron/First Order Riot Control Stormtrooper TARGET exclusive two-pack. We’re all aware how Hasbro uses digital files to make all of the various scales of the same character. It will be very cool if Hasbro decides to make this version of Poe super-articulated for the Walmart exclusive line. And you’re probably sick of our complaining by now, but we’re going to say it one more time. This Walmart exclusive retails for an astounding $49.99. Have you truly calculated this in your head? There is no way you can reconcile this. We really hope the Star Wars line improves and offers collectors more. What’s the point of only having a little more than a dozen super-articulated figure from Episode VII and no companion products?
