Joining our Militaries of Star Wars Sixth Scale figure collection, Sideshow is proud to dispatch the Bomb Squad Clone Trooper.
Called in to protect Naboo from biological warfare, the Clone Ordnance Specialist boasts his trademark orange deco with shoulder insignia, and is fully equipped with everything he needs to get the job done, including blasters, backpack, and wire cutters for diffusing deadly virus bombs.
As an intergalactic conflict rages on, a massive army of Clone Troopers fights in service of the Republic. Build your army!
From the very first moment we saw the Bomb Squad Clone Trooper (Ordnance Specialist) characters in the season 1 episode entitled Blue Shadow Virus, our memories were immediately jostled back to 2002 when TARGET did a very catchy and clever commercial campaign called “Orange You Glad It’s Summer”; it also featured the musical talent of the B-52’s. We’re happy to answer a similar question “Orange you glad it’s Bomb Squad Clone Trooper” with a resounding 'yes' because it’s one of the few clones we personally have been wanting Sideshow Collectibles to produce for a long time now. Besides, it came out brilliantly well. This isn’t the first time we have received this flavor of clone as a toy or collectible. If you recall, Hasbro casually added this clone to the Republic Clone Troopers Battle Packs set in the 2012 Star Wars [The Phantom Menace 3D] lineup, really doing a disservice to this clone as well as the story. They should have developed and entire Battle Packs set around it. We digress. Thankfully Sideshow Collectibles has a much more finely tuned attention span and have created a unique clone that brings all of the wonderful accessories required for the Bomb Squad Clone Trooper (Ordnance Specialist) to create what will unequivocally become the greatest collectible interpretation of this character.... period.
You pretty much know the story here. Sideshow has been using their Armored buck quite wisely time and again to bring as many clones to the line as possible. Yes, admittedly the incessant clone releases have become almost too much to bear thanks to the nonstop frequency, but we’d be lying if we said that Sideshow didn’t do their best to make each new release significantly unique from the last. Such is true for the Bomb Squad Clone Trooper (Ordnance Specialist). The most notable characteristic of course is his bright orange armor. But this figure has been decorated with preciseness and class and have depth, textured and a weathered look that would make a grown man cry. The special “ordnance specialist” insignia on the left shoulder armor is a nice transition from the overly two tone color palette this figure possesses. (The same insignia is also on the backpack.) The Bomb Squad Clone Trooper (Ordnance Specialist) is loaded with accessories. The virus bombs are works of art in and of themselves. Fans of The Clone Wars finally have the chance to have these awesome bombs accompany the clone instead of like the Hasbro figure where we just have to pretend. The wire clippers are an astounding accessory too. We don’t recall ever getting something this intricate and delicate in the 1:6 Scale Figure line in a very, very long time.
If you think about it, the Bomb Squad Clone Trooper (Ordnance Specialist) has a very ironic name. Don’t all clones deal with various artillery and the storage of them? That’s all an ordnance specialist does, yet even the “simplest” infantry clone trooper had these duties. We witnessed this time and again in The Clone Wars television show. Maybe it’s useless to ponder such things, but sometimes we have pondered that these clones are given fancy names just so they sound more important than they really might be. Hmm, sounds like the orientation of every social media narcissist. We digress again. The Bomb Squad Clone Trooper (Ordnance Specialist) does have a concentrated orange color to him, but don’t think for a minute he’ll blend in nicely with your 212th Attack Battalion collection. This clone has a very distinct color scheme and in our opinion no clones match his unique color flash pattern and design. Coming with a phase I helmet, this means that we don’t know what these clones looked like in phase II. This is a shame because so many of the phase I looks paled in comparison to the phase II helmet and armor designs in later episodes of The Clone Wars. As one of the last 1:6 Scale Figure to fall within the $149.99 range (prices keep going up) we hope that we are able to purchase one more before they sell out completely. Hasbro isn’t doing right by The Clone Wars, so it’s nice to see a licensee picking up that slack.
