If there ever was a figure that has gone totally wrong it would have to be Han Solo (Endor) from the Rebels Saga Legends lineup. Ay de mi. Note to Hasbro: characters with coats that exceed in length below the belt line are NOT good choices for the simply-articulated Mission Series and Saga Legends lines. It’s unbelievable that in 1984 Kenner was able to sew a miniature perfectly-fitting trench coat soft-goods accessory for the figure yet in 2015 the same coat becomes a permanent part of the sculpt. And then sacrifices are made to the integrity of the sculpt that make it look outrageously abhorrent. Han Solo (Endor), and we can’t wait for the contrarians to argue otherwise, may on principle alone be the worst figure of the entire Saga Legends line this year. The sculpt had great potential, but is ruined by Hasbro’s trickery to make something that should be soft-goods a seamless part of the sculpt. OK. OK. OK. So Hasbro has made other characters with long robes and stuff in this range, like Darth Sidious for example. But he sucks too. The best way to have approached an Endor themed Han Solo was to give us the figure sans trench coat. He was out of it throughout most of the Battle of Endor anyway? If it doesn’t look right, why force it?
Because two points of articulation reside in the hips, Hasbro needed to break the length of the trench coat at the waist to allow for that articulation. This (a) gives the illusion that there is waist joint here which is really annoying and (b) it looks like he is wearing a short coat with a matching dress that is wide open. It’s ultimately a disastrous action figure. Hasbro even went so far as to sculpt real legs inside the trench coat. But for all intents and purposes it completely fails. It doesn’t have any redeeming qualities we’re sad to report. This is tragic because the head sculpt is very good and the paint operations aren’t terrible. It’s actually quite impressive how they recreated the pattern of the camouflage with only two colors on all of the Endor figures form this wave honestly. It certainly isn’t screen accurate, but it’s been done commendably well. Because his belt is hidden underneath of his trench coat, there is no functioning holster for his included blaster pistol. But both hands have been sculpted excellently to accommodate the gun thankfully. Han Solo (Endor) has no issues holding his gun or standing unassisted. These are two qualities that we have to have in place at all times.
As mentioned, the paint operations are good but not perfect. On our sample, Han Solo (Endor) has some issues in the face and there are score marks on his face (probably from some issue with casting the figure) that stand out in high resolution photography. These marks and a lot of the paint operation issues aren’t noticeable to the human eye exactly. Our photography and how the images turn out pick up a lot more than what your naked eyes will ever see. But it’s likely your sample suffers from similar afflictions. The biggest issue however is that Hasbro completely missed the black paint for his boots above what we'll call the "shoe" line. It actually looks like he is wearing shoes. You can see that Hasbro definitely sculpted boots for the figure however. Sad, sad, sad. Has anyone else out there noticed all the love for Han Solo in the line lately? In The Black Series 6” line we have received Han Solo (#08) and Han Solo (Stormtrooper Disguise) (#09). We also received the A New Hope version of Han Solo in the 2013 SW[DV/ROTS] Han Solo And Chewbacca (MS07) Mission Series set. Now we have two new Han Solo action figures in the Rebels Saga Legends line too. He is a great character, but we’re not so sure if the action figure interpretations of them are all that great. Return Of The Jedi is a wonderful fertile film of characters and any action figures based on this film are more than welcomed. We just think that the way these characters are approached need to be done in a better way. Han Solo (Endor) is testament to that.
