Celebrate the legendary Star Wars films that changed the universe forever, with The Saga Collection. This collection brings to life the incredible story of good versus evil that captured our imagination and transported us to a galaxy far, far away. To commemorate these landmark films, we are honoring their creator, George Lucas. We pay homage to both his remarkable accomplishments in film as well as the legions of Star Wars fans that he inspired by presenting a likeness of the director himself, clad in one of the saga's most iconic designs -- the distinctive armor of an Imperial stormtrooper. May the Force be with you!

We bet you never expected that there would be an opportunity to secure a George Lucas (In Stormtrooper Disguise) action figure for your collection…. ever, did you? But as the reward for collecting all of the required Ultimate Galactic Hunt figures plus $4.95 for shipping and handling, this is the exact figure you’d get. As part of Hasbro’s 2006 UGH promotion, of which there were many that year, if collectors purchased one of each “vintage” The Saga Collection figures (affectionately known as VTSC) and placed the proof-of-purchase stickers from the packaging onto a general order form, it would entitle them to one of these exclusives action figures. Hasbro shipped the FREE George Lucas (In Stormtrooper Disguise) action figure in beautiful vintage inspired Kenner packaging just like the five other figures part of this promotion. In fact, it borrowed the same artwork as 1978’s Star Wars Stormtrooper figure (with a different card back celebrating Lucas’ success in the Star Wars franchise). The Ultimate Galactic Hunt promotion was difficult for collectors because Hasbro required one proof-of-purchase sticker from EACH of the five VTSC figures part of the promotion. The issue? The VTSC Biker Scout was the most highly sought after army builder figure and it was nearly impossible to find him to collect his unique proof-of-purchase sticker. Eventually Hasbro conceded the difficulty of this and began to accept combinations of any five stickers to make things easier for collectors.

When George Lucas (In Stormtrooper Disguise) began arriving to collectors’ doorsteps, the reaction was palpable. Collectors were astounded with the action figure’s likeness to the Star Wars creator. And we have to echo their sentiments as well. The head sculpt of George Lucas is simply amazing, one of the greatest head sculpts Hasbro has ever tooled. It’s beyond impressive and shows just what they’re capable of doing across the board. For the Stormtrooper body, Hasbro chose the Stormtrooper from 2002’s Star Wars “Saga” Stormtrooper Trooper Builder Set (which was a Fan Club exclusive that year). What sets this version apart from 1999’s POTF2 [FlashBack/CommTech] Stormtrooper figure is the removal of the blaster damage effect. Hasbro chose this version for George Lucas to give him an overall clean, white armored look. And you wouldn’t believe how modern this figure appears despite its use of old parts. When out of the package, George Lucas (In Stormtrooper Disguise) looks fantastic. Hasbro even sculpted an all-new removable helmet to complete the look. He also comes with a modern “downsized” E-11 blaster that fits really well into his left hand and loosely in his right hand. The 1999 CommTech Stormtrooper really pushed the boundaries of Star Wars figures, and believe it or not, it’s held up well all these years and works particularly well for special novelty figures like George Lucas (In Stormtrooper Disguise).

George Lucas (In Stormtrooper Disguise) comes packaged in a clamshell that has been taped together. If you recall, the first wave of the mainstream VTSC figures came both taped and heat sealed. We imagine that Hasbro felt it was a safe bet to only have these exclusives figures tape-sealed since they were coming straight from a fulfillment center. Inside the clamshell is a The Saga Collection insert which contains all of the relevant stock data to this figure. Although the front of the card is a replica of the 1978 Star Wars Stormtrooper figure, the back is all-new of course. It’s a very similar design as seen on all of the “vintage styled” Kenner VOTC/VTSC figures. But the description is unique in that it directly addresses George Lucas. There is also a picture of him standing next to Sandtroopers, which is a very cool and historical reference image. Lightspeed ahead of that silly “Jorg Sacul” figure released years earlier, George Lucas (In Stormtrooper Disguise) is a tremendous success based on the merits of the head sculpt alone. (If you look carefully on the card back, you'll see that the Jorg Sacul head sculpt was used for the image of this figure.) The figure quickly commanded a premium on the aftermarket and it’s expected that it will maintain its value throughout the years. Mail-away figures on this notoriety are always sought after once they are no longer available from the fulfillment center or if the offer expires. In this case, the offer expired November 30, 2006 (postmarked) with a grace period of December 8, 2006 (must have been received by). It began shipping July 2006.

Collector Notes

George Lucas (In Stormtrooper Disguise)

Status: George Lucas (In Stormtrooper Disguise) is a retool and repaint of the Stormtrooper figure from 2002's SW [S - P1] Stormtrooper Trooper Builder Set Fan Club exclusive which was a repaint of 1999's POTF2 [FB/CT] Stormtrooper figure. This time an all-new head sculpt with George Lucas' likeness and helmet have been tooled and the tooling is divine.
