Obi-Wan rides Boga on the sinkhole planet of Utapau in search of General Grievous, the evil commander of the droid armies. He finds Grievous, who is prepared for combat in his battle-ready wheelbike, and an incredible battle begins! Who will win the fight? The fate of the galaxy is in your hands!

If it’s absolutely necessary for Star Wars toys to come with action features, we’d have to redirect Hasbro’s attention to 2005’s Revenge Of The Sith Boga With Obi-Wan Kenobi because it’s a picture perfect example of how the best of both worlds can cohabitate seamlessly. That doesn’t mean we’re proponents of action features, because we aren’t. But they’re a necessary evil, especially in any movie-based toy line to engage the kids. But the Boga With Obi-Wan Kenobi release clearly demonstrates that wonky action features don’t have to take center stage on a toy. When it comes to Boga With Obi-Wan Kenobi, Hasbro had both collectors and kids in mind. And they’ve produced a screen accurate creature along with screen accurate features, yet they didn’t have to add obtrusive levers and/or buttons to make the action feature work. What’s more, Boga herself has a gorgeous paint job and outstanding detail. Plus, one of everything collectors get an all-new Obi-Wan Kenobi which rides Boga flawlessly, albeit with minimal articulation.

So let’s look at Boga first. You should know that Boga is her name and not her species. She is a varactyl native to Utapau. Looking like a space version of a super-sized bearded dragon, Boga comes with very little articulation, but a cool action feature which gives it most of its movement. If you pull her extraordinarily long tail, it articulates both her front swivel arms (upwards and downwards) as well as opening and closing her lower jaw. The tail gives Boga “total control” movement because if you twist the tail left and right it articulates her head left and right too. What’s so great about this feature is that the movements are lifelike and realistic. You believe that if this creature lived on Earth that she would make similar movements. Plus, because of the these features Boga imitates her movements as seen in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith. On top of a perfect paint job with multiple colors and excellent use of layered coats of paint, Boga has beautiful details etched into her saddle and harness. And the amount of detail Hasbro added to the paint operations at the bottom of Boga are equally beautiful. We’re not sure sure if we understand why the colored the undersides of her feet/claws in teal blue, but it still looks cool nonetheless.

The all-new Obi-Wan Kenobi is not as exciting as Boga, but he is still interesting. This figure was clearly designed to interact with Boga only. While it is possible for him to stand unassisted without Boga, he looks a little bit silly without her. What is nice about this pack-in figure is Hasbro have him ball-jointed shoulders which gives him optimal movement wielding his lightsaber while mounted on Boga. And between the swivel head, swivel wrists and swivel waist, you can attain most of the scenes from Episode III as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Boga pursue General Grievous to finally end the strife that has filled Clone Wars. The paint job on Obi-Wan Kenobi is a bit lackluster. He has a “deer in headlights” appearance, but aside from that the rest of the paint job is alright. We have come across various paint jobs on Boga. Some have darker paint operations on the beak while others are notably lighter. But aside from that, this has been a rather consistent toy in the Revenge Of The Sith lineup. As we’ve mentioned, if a toy must come with action features, this is how we want it. They provide some extra play value for kids, but they don’t adulterate an otherwise great sculpt.
