Teebo

General Analysis

The Empire prepares to crush the Rebellion with a second, more powerful Death Star. As the Rebel fleet mounts a massive attack on the dreaded space station, Luke Skywalker confronts his father, Darth Vader, in a climactic duel before the evil Emperor. In the last second, Vader makes a momentous choice: he destroys the Emperor and saves his son. The Empire is finally defeated, the evil Sith are destroyed, and Anakin Skywalker is redeemed. At long last, freedom is restored to the galaxy.

Teebo

Teebo is an Ewok poet, musician, and mystic who reads the future in the stars and communicates with nature. He's a member of the tribe's Council of Elders and led the war party that discovered Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and the others before the Battle of Endor.

As the first phase of the Star Wars “Saga” line came time to wrap, Hasbro felt that some of their most recent figures in the Power Of The Jedi line warranted rerelease. However, although Hasbro numbered them as part of the Star Wars “Saga” Phase I lineup, the figures didn’t hit shelves until early 2003 when the Star Wars “Saga” line moved onto Phase II. These repacked figures shipped in the new 2003 case assortments with the latest figures of 2003! Teebo was one of the final three figures from the Power Of The Jedi line in 2002, and it didn’t see much widespread distribution at retail, unfortunately. Many collectors wanted to add Teebo to their collection, but the original version was long gone and already commanding high prices on the aftermarket. So they carried Teebo forward into the Star Wars “Saga” line, and it delighted collectors. Only eagle-eyed collectors may notice that this Ewok from Return Of The Jedi isn’t the same version that was part of the Power Of The Jedi line. However, before you panic, the figure is identical to the POTJ release except for a few very subtle paint operation changes, all of which we’ll go into detail.

Teebo has three distinct differences this time. Hasbro included the stripes on the figure’s fur with sloppily-applied paint operations. The cowl is duller. And the “fleshy” parts of the hands and feet are darker. The torso has a green hue that isn’t present on the limbs. Lastly, the bluish-green detail on the horn and sheath are a different shade now. We’re talking about slight deco changes here, so there is nothing to worry about if you don’t care about such things. Our eyes notice things that most others overlook and that an average collector won’t see. But it’s important to note that the differences exist. One of the standout figures in the Power Of The Jedi line, Teebo is the perfect candidate to repack in the Star Wars “Saga” line. Teebo is great to see again, but some collectors might point out that the character is too large. The figure’s large size was an issue in the Power Of The Jedi line, and the same is true for the Star Wars “Saga” line. Regardless, Teebo is a beautiful action figure. Hasbro came far, creating the Ewoks species in the basic figure line, and frankly, Teebo still shines above the rest by comparison. The Ewok comes with a decent amount of accessories, and Hasbro packaged them “on display” in the bubble, and the Ewok isn’t wearing them this time. You have to install them.

Teebo comes with seven points of articulation. The figure isn’t super-articulated, but the lack of articulation, surprisingly, doesn’t affect the aesthetics of this action figure. Teebo, interestingly, doesn’t need a lot of movement, and it’s a beautiful action figure. Besides, we believe Teebo received the standard amount of articulation, and it serves the action figure well. The best feature here is Teebo’s swivel wrists. These are especially important when you have the figure holding the included spear. Ewoks must have this articulation to make the interaction with weapons believable. Teebo’s accessories may not rival the sculpt of the action figure itself, but they’re lovely additions here. Teebo comes with a strapped horn, a strapped knife and sheath combination piece, an ornately detailed and decorated cowl that features the head of an Endor boar, and the spear mentioned above. All of the accessories are well-sculpted and fit the character flawlessly. If you missed the Power Of The Jedi version or want to get this “new” version with subtle paint differences, you now have the option. Teebo, for us, is an essential character, and it’s a beautiful modern update to 1984’s ROTJ Teebo vintage Kenner figure.
