The Luke Skywalker (In Stormtrooper Disguise) Mini Bust was a foreshadowing of sorts. It took “parts” of two upcoming Mini Busts at the time and amalgamated them together to make a very cool Convention Exclusive. Utilizing the same digital scanning that was used for the Luke Skywalker (In X-wing Fighter Gear) Mini Bust along with the highly anticipated Stormtrooper Mini Bust, Gentle Giant Ltd. created a very special interpretation of Luke Skywalker as he famoulsy appeared in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. The stormtrooper disguises that Luke and Han utilized to penetrate the upper levels of the Death Star have been permanently imprinted in our minds, and it seems that we can never get enough collectible format inspired by these moments in the film. The Luke Skywalker (In Stormtrooper Disguise) further proves that Gentle Giant’s talent is ubiquitous throughout the Mini Bust line. Clearly this piece is no different. Consistency best describes their efforts to date. And it’s extremely rewarding to see them go in a direction that includes characters arms now.

It’s hard to deride a licensee when there is evidence that a great deal of thought goes into their pieces. Luke Skywalker (In Stormtrooper Disguise) is the perfect example that Gentle Giant couldn’t be more serious about delivering quality polystone products in the Star Wars Mini Bust line. The line started off Prequel Trilogy focused with characters from Attack of The Clones, but after a few short years Gentle Giant began to show that they too have a great deal of emotional stake in the Original Trilogy. General release Mini Busts like Darth Vader and Boba Fett were first on their list and now they’re thinking of cleaver ways to release more OT characters into the line. Some have criticized that a piece like Luke Skywalker (In Stormtrooper Disguise) should be available for the general market. But dare we go so far to say that we think it helps to play on the spirit of the original vintage Kenner line where Luke Skywalker (Stormtrooper Outfit) is one of the rarest and most sought after action figures from 1985. It sort of makes people want it more.... so to speak.

Gentle Giant’s commitment to excellence at this point seems irrevocable. There is little room for worry with each and every piece they are now bringing into the line. Some sculpts are simple while others are more dynamic. But whatever path they take to being a character to life in this line always seems to pan out without issue. The flawless digital sculpting is made more impressive with the hand painted details added by the artists who bring these pieces to figurative life, just like Luke Skywalker (In Stormtrooper Outfit). This Mini Bust was originally offered as a San Diego Comic Con International exclusive between July 21st and July 25th. 200 pieces were allocated for Preview Night, while 400 pieces were allocated for the remaining full days of the convention. Then the piece was an exclusive for Wizard World Chicago between August 13th and August 15th. The remaining quantities of each piece will be made available exclusively online to members of Gentle Giant's Collector's Club after the shows. These remaining pieces did not last long at all. Definitely a piece for any collection, we think this is one of the finest pieces to date.
