A dedicated and legendary Jedi Knight, Obi-Wan Kenobi had a long and tumultuous career that helped shape the fate of an entire galaxy. As a General in the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi served the Senate and the Republic heroically, on numerous historic battlefronts. Despite his misgivings, he became a seasoned starfighter pilot, learning several tricks from his unorthodox Padawan, Anakin Skywalker, as the duo blazed a trail of victory through Separatist lines. During the Clone Wars, Kenobi ascended to the rank of Jedi Master, and he occupied a position in the Jedi Council.

There are many product announcements made by Gentle Giant Ltd. in the statues line that make collectors of the Mini Busts line wish that they would make those characters in the Mini Bust format instead. Sometimes they are produced in both formats. Thankfully for Obi-Wan Kenobi (In Clone Trooper Armor), it meant both the statues and Mini Busts formats would be graced with its presence. In a clever promotion, those who bought the statue first would reap the reward of paying only $25 for the Mini Bust through an exclusive Gentle Giant Ltd. web exclusive offering. With proper proof of purchase and a photocopy of the Certificate of Authenticity of the status, collectors would pay less than half price for the Mini Bust. The remaining units were then sold at regular retail and online establishments. With 5000 units produced there were plenty to go around. As a result, those who didn’t own the statue could also find the Obi-Wan Kenobi (In Clone Trooper Armor) Mini Bust for less than its MSRP as well.

For reasons unknown really, the Obi-Wan Kenobi (In Clone Trooper Armor) Mini Bust looks better than its statue counterpart. While it looks than the similar scans were used for both pieces, the head sculpt on the Mini Bust comes off as much more successful at capturing his likeness. The paint job is relatively flawless. While Obi-Wan’s armor is relatively clean, there are portions that contain some scuffing and dirt and even these small amounts add a great deal of character to the Mini Bust. He has a long flowing brown cape and his right hand holding a lit lightsaber is removable. Sadly, it doesn’t stay firmly in place and falls out rather easily, so be careful when transporting the piece to and from your display shelves. While we do appreciate the portrait, if we had to complain about it, we would state that Obi-Wan’s hairstyle is too short. He had longer hair at this stage of the Clone Wars, so the Episode III inspired appearance of his hair is a bit off in our books.

The Genndy Tartakovsky Clone Wars micro-series provided Star Wars fans with an incredible arc of events that transpired during the Clone Wars. Hasbro did make some animated action figures of many of the characters from the series, but it was Gentle Giant Ltd. who went all out and created an entire line of awesome Clone Wars animated Maquettes. That series has run its course, but Gentle Giant Ltd. feels that there is still a market to support realistically styled products based on this series as well. We applaud them for taking a chance in the realistic format. And it is our opinion that their risks paid off incredibly well. We’d suggest reducing the edition sizes of these more obscure character takes, but overall we hope they are able to keep peppering the line with great concepts like Obi-Wan Kenobi (In Clone Trooper Armor). If you’re looking for a high-end collectible based on the original Cartoon Network micro-series, this Mini Bust was designed with you in mind.
