Lumat - TVC - Basic (VC104)

If you tried to tell us about another Ewok that causes more confusion than Lumat, we would stop you and tell you that you were wrong and no other Ewok exists that fits that criteria. Because quite honestly, no Ewok causes more confusion than Lumat. The most confusing thing here is that this action figure wasn’t determined to officially be Lumat until very recently (in the modern era). Sure, Kenner had it right back in the day in 1984, but the CCG card game created unnecessary confusion about this character because they chose a completely different Ewok altogether and labeled him as Lumat. It wasn’t until recently that it’s finally been made official by Lucasfilm, Ltd. that the Ewok we grew up with in the mid eighties is the Ewok he always was. (Are you confused?) Unbelievably, this is only the second time we have received a Lumat action figure. And the cool coincidence is that both versions come in “vintage styled” packaging. This obviously means that this is the first time Lumat has been offered in the modern neo classic era. It’s quite impressive for a fur ball to stay for so far off Hasbro’s radar for so many years. But perhaps Lumat was ignored until Hasbro could do some verifying of their own to figure out who the heck this Ewok actually is in the midst of so many opposite opinions.

The data has been verified and now a superior action figure has been molded and released and it’s a beautiful thing to see Lumat now released in The Vintage Collection. Clearly Star Wars collectors are desperate to complete the original vintage Kenner action figures in the modern lineup, but sometimes that means we’re going to wait a while. Our case in point to this argument is Sim Aloo. We are beginning to grow concerned that he may just never see the light of day. We’ll see. We digress. Lumat is long overdue, but eagerly welcomed and with the huge focus on Ewoks in 2012 alone, it’s no surprise that Hasbro still feels comfortable releasing them as basic figures as well as part of multipacks. Lumat’s packaging is of course splendid to ogle. The hot pink background where the figure is placed that matches the figure’s name plate reminds us of the 80s when we saw this figure hanging all over the place: Toys R Us, Two Guys, Korvette’s, Fun Town and many other stores now out of business that our young readers have never heard of until now. Lumat doesn’t necessarily bring that much new to the table. Hasbro has a nice catalogue of Ewok parts so you should expect to see them reuse parts all the time to bring us new members of this species.

Lumat utilizes the body of 2011’s TVC Logray (Ewok Medicine Man) (VC55) with an all-new head sculpt. He also recycles the cowl/quiver combination of the Graak figure from 2007’s TAC Romba & Graak (No. 43) figure. New here for this release are the aforementioned head sculpt and all of his accessories. Hasbro tooled an all-new bow (which accepts an arrow – how cool is that?!) and even the three included arrows are all-new as well. He also comes with an all-new spear that looks similar to the spear included with 2010’s TVC Wicket (VC27) figure, but it’s also all-new as well. The actual color of Lumat has been a point of contest throughout the years. The vintage figure from 1984 is light tan, yet the reference photo on the figure’s packaging shows a brown Ewok. Hasbro, we suppose, thought it would be humorous to add to the debate a little more and painted Lumat light gray for The Vintage Collection. We don’t care. He looks perfect and his hood matches perfectly. His all-new head sculpt is cute and cuddly, so what more could you want? The father of Nippet, this release represents the first father/daughter relationship for the Ewok species in the basic figure line. Now all we need is a female Ewok, right? Enjoy the release of the first modern Lumat. He is absolutely fantastic!
