Luminara is a Jedi General sent to Kashyyyk in the final days of the Clone Wars with a squad of clone troopers including AT-RT Drivers.

One of the most exciting things Star Wars fans looked forward to in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith was the Battle of Kashyyyk. If you recall, George Lucas wanted the final battle in Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi to be full of Wookiees, but since he established Chewbacca as a highly sophisticated being, he felt that having a primitive native battle would work against the character development. But Lucas more than made up for it in Episode III. Yes, the battle was quick and we wished we could have seen a lot more, but we did get glimpses of some key Jedi and clone leaders in addition to the large droid army that invaded the planet. One Jedi clearly seen was Luminara Unduli and while the camera just panned a distant shot of her before quickly moving a way, it confirmed just how “in the battle” the Jedi generals were. As a result of this battle, Hasbro saw it fit to release Luminara Unduli with a camouflaged version of the AT-RT Driver. The repainted figures look fantastic, but it may be correct to label this set as a Hasbro Concept despite borrowing many parts from the Star Wars: Republic comics.

Luminara Unduli looks spectacular. Hasbro revisited her paint job from the ground up and incorporated a new and much better quality soft-goods skirt making this the definitive action figure for this character to date. Luminara Unduli’s outfit was hard to make out during Episode III, but we know it wasn’t as colorful as the 2005 ROTS Luminara Unduli (III 31) version appeared. Hasbro toned down the colors making her overall much darker and then they cleaned up the paint job in the face and we have to say that they really did a fine job on the deco. The figure isn’t of course perfect as she has swivel elbows, a point of articulation we’ve grown to loathe over the years. And it’s hard to position her legs just so because of the inhibiting soft-goods skirt (which is more fitted this time around and leaves less room for your fingers to futz with her legs to get he to stand upright. And while we’ve expressed that this figure has its share of flaws, it still looks excellent and we’re happy Hasbro took such an aggressive approach updating her. This figure will certainly hold us over until Hasbro is able to make a super-articulated version of Luminara Unduli with ball-jointed elbows and the like.

Luminia Unduli comes packaged with a camouflaged version of the AT-RT Driver. And this figure is a rework of 2005’s ROTS AT-RT Driver (III 54) figure. As we all know, this AT-RT Driver figure is excellent and comes super-articulated with all of the premium points we’ve come to love. Hasbro modified his gun so it doesn’t include the strap. He can no longer wear his blaster across his back and instead can only hold it in his left hand now that the gun is strapless. The paint job borders exquisite in our opinion and it is truly a testament to what Hasbro is capable of bringing to other clone trooper basic figures that come to us “all clean”. Loosley based on events in Star Wars: Republic, this set in the Order 66 (Series 2) series may be the closest example of a true Order 66 situation. In the story, Luminara Unduli is double-crossed by her clone protectors, although we had a hard time locating actual camouflaged AT-RT Drivers in the comics. Still, this set is believable and the most noteworthy aspect is the great update to Luminara Unduli. You’ll ant to pay the $9.99 just for that alone. Female Jedi just don’t get the allotment they deserve in the basic figure line, so it’s nice to know that Hasbro has some sort of goal to get them out in one form or another over time.
