A welcome oasis in the middle of the blazing desert of Tatooine, the Mos Eisley Cantina hosts a bizarre and sometimes dangerous array of alien patrons, from Ithorians to Rodians, seeking shade, business and refreshment. A few steps into the dimly lit main room, one finds a scattering of booths and tables. An alien band plays a lively tune in the corner, and a gruff bartender slings exotic concoctions from behind a rounded bar. Deals of all kinds are made in this infamous meeting place, including the one struck between Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi hiring Han Solo and Chewbacca for transport.

Just as Hasbro amortizes cost when a great sculpt is made that can produce other great figures (or find new ways to reinvent them), so does Sideshow Collectibles with their line of high-end collectibles. Between the Greedo and Momaw Nadon (Hammerhead) 1:6 Scale Figures they produced, they also have created their corresponding 1:6 Scale Figure Environments to accompany the figures. And because their respective environments include two chairs and a cantina table with drinking glasses, it makes sense that they will recycle parts. And that’s exactly what they did. This time billed as “Nadon’s Nook,” the Mos Eisley Cantina for Momaw Nadon (Hammerhead) is different enough yet very similar to the first release as well. The cantina chairs are “repacks” of the ones that were included in the Mos Eisley Cantina 1:6 Scale Figure Environment (the one that kind of came with Greedo), so not much difference exists here. And the same three drinking glasses are also included. (We would have loved to see some different colored liquid included for this release however.)

The cantina table however sports the biggest difference. While it still has the battery operated table light, the outside of it is smooth and without texture. The ribbing that can be seen on [Greedo’s] Mos Eisley Cantina 1:6 Scale Figure Environment is not attempted here. This is great because we now have two unique tables for our 1:6 Scale Figure cantina scenes. Just like the previous release, Nadon’s Nook is full of aging and wear and it looks as if the seats and table has entertained more than just a few of Mos Eisley’s wretched hive of scum and villainy. The electronic feature works beautifully and really makes the purchase of this environment worthwhile. It looks great lit or unlit and brings a sense of seediness to the figures that accompany it. Nadon’s Nook interacts wonderfully with the Momaw Nadon (Hammerhead) figure and we have found that setting only one chair when he is seated in it looks so much better than trying to crowd the table with another seat. (See our photo gallery for this example.) Momaw Nadon doesn’t come with his own drinking glass, but it’s not like you don’t have any choices here.

For $89.99, this isn’t an inexpensive set. But Sideshow has crafted and painted in very well and we honestly can’t think of a better way to set up a cantina alien in your 1:6 Scale Figure collection. Sometimes posing figures on the included 12” figure stand has gotten rather static over the years, so we’re very appreciative for the efforts Sideshow Collectibles puts forth to make their 1:6 Scale Figure line very engaging. And it’s quite impressive that they can make polystone look like synthetic material (like the table) or leather (like the chairs). It’s a great medium that loves to be painted. And paint really has never looked better than on this material. As you can see from the photo gallery, the three main pieces of this set look so realistic. It will be interesting to see where Sideshow Collectibles takes the 1:6 Scale Figure line as well as the environments they make to go along with the figures. But you can rest assured that Nadon’s Nook is very enjoyable and we wouldn’t want Momaw Nadon (Hammerhead) posed in any other way! This is what makes Star Wars high-end collecting such a joy.
