Obi-Wan battles the enemies of the Republic as war expands across the galaxy. The Jedi General continues his hunt for General Grievous and leads diplomatic missions to far-flung worlds. Whether he is battling droids or negotiating with potential allies, Obi-Wan is resolute in his fight to save the Republic.

We can’t help but notice the similarities between the Tartakovsky Clone Wars series and Filoni’s The Clone Wars series. We’re not trying to blur the lines of the completely different multimedia events and their stories because that would be silly. They clearly each have their own goals and missions. But we can’t dismiss the similarities in their approach sometimes. For example, both creators have sought out how to connect the dots. (In all honesty, can anyone do a better job than Tartakovsky whose Volume 2 took us all right up to the opening crawl of Episode III? OK, you already know we're biased here.) But now we’re seeing Filoni attempt his best to bring some commonality between the live action in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith and Season 3 of The Clone Wars. One of the steps forward in this direction is the blatant outfit changes of the main heroes. Specifically, Obi-Wan Kenobi is looking more and more like his Episode III movie counterpart (and we are getting very excited about it). It is (and this may sound bizarre for the moment) extremely refreshing to see what we are familiar with in live action form make its way to the animated television series.

As a result, Hasbro followed suit and developed an awesome new Obi-Wan Kenobi that looks almost identically to the Episode III realistic version in the basic figure line. The figure is pretty cool and has enhanced articulation from previous iterations of the character in The Clone Wars line, but it still isn’t perfect and can use a few more updates before we’re entirely satisfied with it. He has a simple but good paint job and his portrait looks fantastic. But we think Hasbro went “too cheap” a bit when it comes to articulation. (We’ll get to that in more detail in a moment.) Obi-Wan Kenobi (CW40) is an all-new figure. He looks very lean and is wearing a Jedi outfit that is immediately recognizable to the one seen in Revenge Of The Sith. There are a few differences of course included his gauntlets (with Republic symbols on them) and he is still wearing clone trooper gloves with armor on the top of his hands. A cursory look at the figure will assure you that the figure does indeed look fantastic, but you’ll also soon discover that he has a few issues. And we must address some of them. Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of those “almost” action figures. We do have to wonder sometimes why shortcuts are still being made this late in the development of the line when we expect so much from our figures.

Obi-Wan Kenobi doesn’t have the best center of gravity. You’ll find that you’ll need to pose him in odd configurations to prevent him from falling over and we find this unacceptable. The inclusion of knee joints are almost rendered useless because his center of gravity throws him no matter what you try to do. Ankle joints would have remedied almost all of these issue, but it wasn’t the will of the Force for Hasbro to include these details here. It’s a shame because this is a nice sculpt of Obi-Wan Kenobi and it really bothers us when a great sculpt is made and then it's quality is sacrificed unnecessarily. Obi-Wan Kenobi is lightly accessorized and only comes with his signature lightsaber. But it’s more than enough for this version of him and he can hold it quite well. Hasbro paid close attention to the new haircut Obi-Wan Kenobi has in Season 3 of The Clone Wars and Hasbro has carefully paid attention and included it on this figure also. We can easily tell you that this is an absolute must-have figure. The outfit suits Obi-Wan Kenobi quite well and we are really loving how things are falling into place in The Clone Wars as they relate to the films. This figure captures this well! And while we can’t say this figure is absolutely definitive, he still shines in many other ways.
