Character Profile

Species

Baragwin

Status

Skilled weapons specialist

Weapon of Choice

Stun weapon

Characteristic

Loyal to Jabba the Hutt

Hermi Odle is an expert at crafting weapons and helps fortify Jabba's palace against attack from the Hutt's many enemies. When Jabba attempts to execute the Rebels at the Pit of Carkoon, Odle defends the sail barge with a stun weapon. However, he accidentally stuns one of Jabba's skiff guards, thus inadvertently helping the Rebels.

We don't think Hasbro intends to torture us but since impatience is one of the key traits of a collector, we interpreted Hasbro dragging their feet to make Hermi Odle as particularly merciless. We know they didn't intend for us to grow more anxious each and every year, but we kind of expected him shortly after the release of the Ephant Mon (Jabba's Head Of Security) ('02 #45) figure from the 2002 Star Wars "Saga" line. It didn't, and he had to wait another half a decade before he would grace the shelves of retail in grand scale. And he was indeed grand. In fact, Hasbro had to create a new case assortment box just for wave 5 as well as a special spacer that made up for the extra space since Hermi Odle was only one per case. But despite all of the planning that went into getting Hermi Odle out there for collectors, he turned out extremely well and was one of the highlights of the 30 (77-07) line. He was extremely heavy (weighty) for an action figure, had plenty of articulation to suit his needs and came with a cool soft-goods cowl that just was splendid. He was bumped out of the Return Of The Jedi wave of figures along with C-3PO & Salacious Crumb (30 30) figure set and included in the popular Expanded Universe wave instead. Apparently Hermi Odle and company needed a little more work and were pushed out to September of 2007 when the rest of the Expanded Universe was released.

As another example of a figure where Hasbro "lost their shirt" making it for us, we definitely shouldn't take this action figure for granted. Hermi Odle shouldn't really need any prompting from anyone else to make you absolutely adore him and we know that we couldn't be happier to finally get this big guy into our collections after so many years. Hasbro graciously worked in 11 points of articulation into this beauty. While not all of the points are ball-joints, they move in just about all the ways you would want them to anyway. Just like Ephant Mon (Jabba's Head Of Security) ('02 #45), Hermi Odle has a working jaw that can be opened to show his large and slimy tongue. His right arm is sculpted at an angle so that his staff (which fits in his hands very tightly) remains upright when you pose him on your shelf or diorama. He doesn't come with knee joints but does has ankle joints in case you're looking to put him in some action pose. (We are kidding of course.) The ankle joints are a bonus but they weren't necessary at all. Unlike Ephant Mon, Hermi Odle has a flawless center of gravity and won't fall over no matter what you do (or don't do) to him. We thank Hasbro so much for ensuring that Hermi Odle was designed to maintain a solid stance. He has a pretty good likeness to the character we saw standing across from Amanaman although he may be a little bit too colorful than needed.

Hermi Odle does have a fantastic paint job with lots of shading and various colors where his skin shows and it really captures the details like the wrinkles in his skin. In contrast, the portions of his outfit are colored without a wash and look a little bit dull. But they don't look bad, that is the important part. Our favorite part of this figure is his soft-goods cowl. Don't be fooled. It isn't removable. But it is made from a fabric that looks very realistic and just completes Hermi Odle perfectly. We would describe it as wrinkly burlap and it is primarily brown with green rings around the neck/head area. It just looks amazing! We highly suggest getting this Baragwin into your action figure collections if you don't already have it. It is an essential Star Wars character to own. There is really no other way to put it. We hope that Hasbro will continue to brave more of the larger creatures in Jabba's palace. Cane Adiss would be our next choice. And since they have nearly perfected Hermi Odle, we believe they could do the same for other Jabba's palace denizens. From the eyes without pupils to the large fingers and skinny feet, Hermi Odle is probably one of the most unique creatures our eyes have ever seen. And it's so cool that we got a version of him done so well because we really don't expect Hasbro to revisit him ever again. This is one action figure not to miss!
